Hi all,

the new Firebase with all the new offerings looks awesome!

Just wondering if the new Firebase still works with React Native?

Cheers.

I've given it a try and I'm seeing some errors. Posted the question to StackOverflow:

Geez ok. This means that we are unable to use the new features offered by fire base 3.0 in react native for now.....

Sorry for the trouble. This issue is being raised internally. I can't promise anything, but your feedback is definitely being heard.

As a "workaround" if you don't need auth (unlikely, I know, but still worth mentioning), you should be able to do the following:

var app = require('firebase/app');
var database = require('firebase/database');

Thanks Jacob, RN has become a major dep for my small app company, as I'm sure it is for many other growing businesses. For the same reasons we have adopted RN, FB is of huge appeal to us - however we will have to exclude it from our current and future projects as we can't build our business around legacy Firebase 2.x support. Hopefully your team can find a fix and release a solution soon. As i'm planning our project pipeline I kindly ask that if possible, please share a rough time frame should your team decide to add support.

That seems firebase v3 does not support at all the react-native, I'm developing a project with RN, unfortunately I will not able to use firebase because all the cool stuffs like auth and analytics
are not supported.

After puling my hair for a few hours I found the 'This browser is not supported' error.

I'm putting the error that React Native was reporting for anyone googling it 'undefined is not an object (evaluating 'a.toLowerCase')'

I, and many others I'm sure, need Firebase for React Native...

I understand that branching the JS SDK from the browser version would not make much sense.

What would be really awesome is if you made some native modules for React Native to communicate with your Android and iOS native modules. This way you would solve the persistence problem that JS has on React Native, and the 'This browser is not supported' problem which simply makes Firebase unusable on RN.

Someone tried to make this: https://github.com/holmesal/react-native-firebase

But it's only for iOS and it's unfinished. I'm sure you guys with all your resources could solve this easily.

Please, let us know if we can count on Firebase for our React Native projects in the future or not.

@jacob  thanks for the reply!

I understand that no promises can be made, but I was wondering if it's on the roadmap ?
If it is, any possible timeline ?

I'm pretty sure this will affect many developers' choice of using Firebase or not.

IMO Firebase 3.0 is super awesome + it's an ideal replacement for Parse as well.
With Google's support, I am very sure many developers will adopt it.

I can't wait to see Firebase 3.0 being supported on React Native.

Cheers and thanks!

React Native support would be great. It's a platform that's gaining a lot of developer attention and popularity, and Firebase 2.0 did have support for it (as was officially announced during Google I/O 2015!).
So it would make a ton of sense for Firebase 3.0 to also be compatible with RN.

@Eugene

Kato Richardson wrote here that RN is on the Radar - means beeing discussed - but not on the Roadmap yet.

cheers,
Matthias

Yeah, let's de-dupe this thread and just follow along in the other thread. My latest response is here.

To close the loop here: Version 3.1.0 of the Firebase JavaScript SDK was just released and it is now compatible with React Native. Read more about the release here.
