Hi FI Council and Exec members.
I am hoping you will distribute this email to all your NCA members as we initiate the formal communication process for the 2024 Fireball World Championships.
In the email below is the first Newsletter.

Apart from the welcome and the video of sailing at Geelong, the big news is confirmation of the decision to run the World Championship in standard format. With the funding assistance from FI for containers we have made this call not to proceed with the boat sharing option.

We are in the process of working on a charter boat list and in either Newsletter 2 or 3 we plan to provide more information about charter options. But for those sailors keen to use their own boats we hope this first announcement and the prior announcement of subsidy from FI is a welcome piece of news.

Seasons Greetings to you all

Regards….

Meet Brendan Garner

Introducing the Organising Committee Chair, Fireball sailor and Royal Geelong Yacht Club (RGYC) Board Member: Brendan Garner. RGYC is delighted to welcome international regattas back to Geelong after two years of uncertainty. Brendan’s message: “Geelong is perfectly positioned to host the upcoming Fireball World Championship. With easy access to Melbourne for travel and logistics, world-class sailing and as a tourist destination, our visiting sailors and families are in for a treat”. See for yourself in the video below: Fireball sailing at Geelong and views from the club.

Big News for overseas sailors: Fireball International has approved container subsidies of £5,000 per container. Together with slowly reducing shipping prices this should make a big difference to transport affordability to attend the Worlds in Geelong. Please talk to your National association about how you can participate in the program.

And implications for all sailors: Australia and overseas: As a result of this subsidy the Organising Committee plans to run this regatta in standard format. For those that contributed to the ideas of boat sharing that were discussed in Ireland we thank you for your input. It has been decided boat sharing will not be implemented for this regatta.
