*** Problem Statement ***
The global discourse around climate change has grown in both urgency and complexity in recent years. As the impacts of climate change become more significant over the years through various alarming events, such as rising sea levels and extreme weather, there is a parallel surge in climate-related communication across various social media platforms. Most prior works on this topic focused on social media posts in English only, whereas social media posts in Indian languages remain unexplored.
This year's task is on stance detection with respect to the claim "Climate change and global warming are serious concerns". The goal is to build an effective classifier / stance detector to label a social media post (particularly, a YouTube comment) in Indian languages (Hindi or Bengali) with one of the following labels – Favour, Against, None - with respect to the given claim. A related challenge is that the publicly available training datasets are in English, while the test data will be in Hindi and Bengali.
