*** Problem Statement ***
Vaccination is important to minimize the risks of various diseases. In recent years, vaccination has been a key step for countering the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, society-scale vaccination is needed to minimize the chances of various diseases including diseases in children, yearly outbreaks such as flu, and so on. However, many people are skeptical about the use of vaccines owing to various reasons, including the politics involved, potential side-effects of vaccines, etc. It is important to understand these various concerns towards vaccines, and social media can be used to gain a lot of data quickly about people talking about vaccines.
In this year’s task, the goal is to build an effective classifier to label a social media post (a tweet) according to the specific concern(s) towards vaccines as expressed by the author of the post. We consider 11 distinct concerns towards vaccines, e.g., vaccines have side-effects, vaccines are unnecessary, concerns about ingredients of vaccines, political reasons, and so on. A single tweet often voices multiple concerns; hence, the task is a challenging multi-label, multi-class classification problem. Interested participants can see our SIGIR2022 paper https://arxiv.org/abs/2204.13746 to get an idea of the involved challenges.
We will provide training data annotated by human workers, and test data for evaluating the submitted models. Details of how to participate are available at https://sites.google.com/view/aisome/aisome
