Apologies for cross-posting.

Call for Paper for submission to the First Workshop on Proactive Agent-Support based Information Retrieval (organized as a part of CIKM 2022).

Background of the PASIR Workshop:

Users typically interact with a digital system with the goal of accomplishing a task. While a user is often able to effectively address their information needs by engaging with IR systems in the classical reactive mode, it is not without challenges and cost to the user (e.g query reformulations), and may not expose the user to all of the potentially useful information available to them.  Beyond the traditional active search paradigm, there may be other information available within the IR system which the user is unaware of or has forgotten about, which, if they were aware of, would enable them to complete their task more efficiently or better.  The idea of a proactive and agent supported information retrieval (PASIR) system is to help a user in completing his task without the user always needing to actively engage with the IR system.  In this workshop we aim to address the limitations of current agent supported IR research (e.g. conversational IR, interactive IR, proactive IR) and explore the opportunities for improved user experience using a PASIR system as outlined above.

List of topics include (but not limited to):

1. Investigating opportunities for providing proactive support to the user, i.e., when could a PASIR system notify users of proactively retrieved information without distracting their current activities.

2. Developing novel user-friendly interfaces for a PASIR system.

3. Use of simulation methods in agent supported IR research (e.g. user simulation for conversational IR, interactive IR, proactive IR).

4. Investigating methods for effective evaluation of a PASIR model.

5. Investigating methods for effective proactive query formulation based on a user's context.

Paper Submission Format: Papers submitted should be 4-10 pages of content (plus any number of pages for references) formatted as per the CEUR proceedings template. Accepted papers will be published as a part of the CIKM 2022 CEUR workshop proceedings, and will be indexed in DBLP.
