Counter-Narrative Generation on Homophobic and Transphobic Comments | LT-EDI @ ACL 2026
We are pleased to invite you to participate in the LT-EDI @ ACL 2026 shared task on Homophobia and Transphobia, which addresses harmful online content targeting LGBTQ+ individuals and communities.
The shared task focuses on detecting homophobic and transphobic span, and task 2 is generating counter-narratives, contributing to research on ethical, inclusive, and responsible NLP.
Subtasks
Task 1: Homophobia & Transphobia Span Detection
Identify explicit text spans within social media comments that contain instances of homophobia and/or transphobia.
Languages: English, Tamil, and Hindi
Description: Participants are provided with social media comments and are required to classify and highlight the exact spans that express homophobic or transphobic content. This task emphasizes fine-grained text understanding and precise span-level annotation.
Task 2: Counter-Narrative Generation
Generate appropriate and constructive counter-narratives in response to homophobic or transphobic comments.
Languages: English and Tamil
Description: Participants must generate meaningful, non-offensive, and contextually relevant counter-narratives that challenge prejudice, promote empathy, and encourage respectful dialogue. The focus is on safe, responsible, and effective language generation.
