I am a little bit worried too, but the reason is different.
The activity in our newgroups is going down. The statistics
of this group during the last four year:

1994: 146 messages
1995: 801 messages
1996: 411 messages
1997: 167 messages

And the number of SPAMs in these years:

1994: 0 spam
1995: 4 spams
1996: 13 spams
1997: 62 spams

It seems that in 1998 there will be more spams than real
messages.
