The Last Twenty Days

I speak not of the last twenty days of mans existence on this
unique planet suspended in time and space. I speak as I write knowing
it is twenty days to a time that is in some way celebrated by Pagan
and Christian, Jewish and Muslim and all of those who seek Divine
certainty. Perhaps the significance carries its own meaning to each,
yet it none the less is apparent, real, and recognized by all, whether
it is celebrated with family, Christian friends, or those stranger
than strange, or at least they may seem so. As we decry or embrace
the commercialism. As we listen or watch the endless attempts to
drain the last of the color green from our wallets, and tempt us to
run those shiny plastic card up to it limits, shall we not take even a
brief moment and reflect on where each of we are in our lives?
Is the neighbor who is a devout atheist important to me? Is the
neighbor who wears a Yakama important to me? Is the neighbor who
wears a Turban or Berka important to me? Does it matter my neighbor
is Catholic, Lutheran or Penecostal and I am Methodist? Does it
matter that they are Black, Asian, Native American, Serbian, Indian or
Croatian matter to me? Is the person whom we step over in the gutter
trying to get into the Malls entrance any less than I? It matters
greatly to me. They are all Gods children. As hard as it is to hear,
they are all, my brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, cousins,
nieces and nephews. I understand how hard it is for family to act as
family, yet we are. Seemingly dysfunctional a family are we, yet it
does not relive us of the responsibility to find a way to unite as
one. A task almost insurmountable.
As we argue and debate over whether God exists, whether it is
proper or improper to wage bill board wars, decry as to whether or not
Christianity is on its last legs, or if the Apocalypse is at hand.
Remember there are children who will have no Christmas. That person
whom you refer to as a bum may someday be you. As you allow wagging
tongues to spew hate and vile attacking the sick, defeated, and those
less fortunate than you. As you point a finger at others calling them
useless and insignificant, remember the world is full of mirrors. In
those mirrors you may see either a monster or a miracle. The choice
is up to you as to what you see, and how you act on it.
It is my hope that you choose the miracle and make this last twenty
days something God will bless you for, even if you choose not to
believe he is there. I know not many of you who have took the time to
read my words, yet somehow I know you, because you are all Gods
children, and we too shall talk if not in this lifetime but another.
I leave you with this question.

What if he had never came?
