to Finding GOD
Masquerade

“Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some
people have entertained angels without knowing it.” How shall we know
of what Ilk these angels are? Have some misperceived, misconceived,
and misbelieved the true nature of satan? Has satan become less than
an angel still imbued with the same powers he had when God created
him, or has God actually clipped his wings? Therein lay the first
consequence of misunderstanding. When I spoke of his wings, did not
many immediately form a picture in their minds eye of a majestic
winged creature in pensive debate with God? Or do many see him as a
grotesque horned creature with the legs of a goat? Perhaps a seductive
creature in a shiny red suit, pointed tail, and pitchfork in hand,
standing in front of a fiery perdition. Are any of these descriptions
accurate? Does he smile when he is so characterized?
Christianity views satan as the antithesis to God. Judaism views
satan as an agent of God, who has no independent existence. Islam’s
shaytan or iblis is more than man, due to his supernatural nature, but
less than an angel, because like man, he has free will. If these
three great religions cannot come to a consensus about who this entity
called lucifer is, how can any of us ever be sure who, or what, we are
entertaining? Some will say that is exactly the point. He is the
enemy who wants to keep us confused and ever weary. He is the enemy
who revels in our misconceptions so that he can do as he does. Or do
we give him more credit than he deserves? I defend him not, yet we
are quick to project our sinful nature on him, by not taking
responsibility for not what he made us do, but for what we did all on
our own. How does God view this when such occurs?
Does God find favor with the sinner in spite of the
misappropriation of sin because he has a vested interest in the defeat
of satan? Would God be just in doing so? Does the answer to the
question lay in the perspective doctrine in which you believe?
Christianity may likely answer with a yes, Judaism with a no, and
Islam may take a more centrist approach. Yet in many ways, to sort
through such enigma is an exercise in futility. God does as he
pleases in spite of question or contemplation, because he is God! He
is not bound by any of our thoughts, words, or deeds, because he is
God! He is not bound by doctrine or any of his creations including
satan, however you conceive him.
Jeshua knew this, thus did not fear him, or allow himself to be
manipulated by him. Nor did he fall into the snares set before him.
So, what is our human potential in doing the same? Because of our
imperfect nature are we condemned to be bound by satan’s spell?
Seemingly for many Christians, the harder we resist the spell of
satan, the harder he seems to push, working feverishly to tear us away
from Jeshua and the Father. The one thing satan counts on is our
ignorance and doubt in not understanding that when we commit ourselves
to the family of God, satan indeed can make our lives miserable, but
he can never take our inheritance from us. That is something we must
choose to give up, for Jeshua will never ever allow him to steal it
from us. Great is the God who lives with you!
