Wandering Minds

Some call it waking dreams, some call it lost in space and time,
some call it divine inattention. Yet it is a common human frailty
shared by all, acknowledged by few, and denied by many. To lose focus
of God is not blasphemy, nor is it belligerence. It is simply the
force of one, or his subservient hosts, to only hope that in our
moments of temporary disconnect from the mind of God, that he may ply
his trade. As we walk across the waters of life, so it is that our
minds grant us the perseverance and perception to walk across the
surface or slowly sink into its murky depths where fear and confusion
waits to consume us. A brief illusion, a clever distraction, a lie
hidden inside a truth, are his most potent and devastating weapons. A
sincere gentle prod, an assurance, that looking away for a mere
pittance of time is safe and sane.
So it is our minds wander, going where they will go. We set them
free to be. We place no limitations, boundaries, or prohibitions on
where they feed or where they rest. We watch them and they watches
us. We convince ourselves that unlimited mental freedom and letting
our minds have unfettered ingress and egress will bring us power over
heaven and earth. We believe ourselves to be protected from intrusion
as we exercise introspection. In the drunken stupor of ourselves, our
vanity leads us to confidence in ways most arid. The more we wet our
lips in the search to quench our thirst the more parched our souls
become. Soon in our spite and mental dehydration will we seek water.
Any water of any kind. It is here we become most vulnerable. We just
know we need.
Had we not taken our minds off of God! He and he alone discerns
the waters of life from the waters of death. He and he alone discerns
where and when and how our minds wander. Can there be any more noble
a quest than to seek the mind of God? The mind of God has no
beginning and no end. There shall we be in the middle, completely
protected by his power, wrapped up in his eternal being, safe from all
that he is not. Can there be any more noble a test than to meld with
his perfect mind, his perfect spirit. For a brief moment if we must
allow our minds to wander, let them wander in search of him and all
that he is. Let our minds wander into his holy realm sit and listen
to his words, feel the glory of his presence, and know that he is God.
