Do The Right Thing
Seemingly today, people are doing the “right thing” or is it the
“left thing”. People are expending much of their energy trying to
figure out what it is to do the “right thing” or the “left thing”. If
its not right, its left, and what is not left must equate to being
right. In this process of polarization, pagan and Christian alike do
we find. While those right stand up for their rights, and those left
stand up for their rights, the narrow middle seeks the opportunity for
the same rights even they may not be right and most certainly do not
want to be left. While the fists fly, the eyes emaciate, the lips
languish, and the sputum spews, some homeless and disenfranchised
person lay dead on a side walk.
Someone less fortunate than I hunts through an endless row of
dumpsters for something to eat. Someone less fortunate than I
agonizes over the pending storm or the killing cold. Someone less
fortunate than I cries out to God at the stroke of midnight exhorting
him to give their children a even chance at life. Some less fortunate
than I begs God that this will be the last needle they push into their
arm, last pipe of crack they smoke, last porn site they visit, or last
Twinkie they shove into their mouth. Some less fortunate than I
momentarily pushes God away but prays that this will be their last
deadly casual sexual encounter.
Each and all have the right to be left, and so left you may be,
yet I am not sure how right that is. My brother you are so very
right: By the mighty grace of God there go I. It is by this and this
alone, that I should endeavor to do the right thing and not be left!
Each and every child of God is obligated to do the right thing for the
left, and likewise, shall each of the left do for the right. While
you are so compelled to be right you may end up being left. Perhaps
not such a bad thing. Right? You see their will always be rights and
lefts, ups and downs, but there is only one triune God. He and only
he is the answer. Now let each of us go and do the “right thing”!
