Last Day Best Day
I feel like I need a top hat and cane while dancing foot to knee when
I quote the old cliché, “Today is the first day of the rest of your
life”. How very true that became in view of the fact that we were
scheduled for rapture recently. Indeed there were so many people who
almost suffered a rupture waiting for a rapture. Should we have
empathy for those who partied their life away. Party not in get down
and boogie, party as in I now longer need my job, house, car, and
savings. Well forget about savings. Party as in how do I get the
nasty letter back I sent to my mortgage company, or the bill collector
who has been hounding me for years. I do not know whether I should be
happy or sad realizing the time has come and gone, yet, I still have
to pay the electric, water, house and car note. Worst of all, I have
to continue getting up and go to work on Mondays now.
The Friday night before the end, I thought I was in Rodney
Dangerfield’s comedy club, the quips, quotes, and jokes were flying
around the room so freely I found myself ducking, not really being
sure from what. The problem is, I found myself joining in on the
jocularity. Even Henny Youngman would have been proud of my one
liners. “My wife wanted me to take her somewhere she had never been
before, so I was going to take her to the kitchen, then realized
what’s the point!” “I said to my wife, is your mother packed and
ready, cause if she is going, I’m not coming”. It was a regular slug
fest when it came to commentary leveled at the people who actually
bought into this whole debacle.
I am so happy that it did not happen. I am so depressed it did not
happen. I’m so confused! I am not sure I can take any more rides on
this roller coaster going nowhere but in circles! Stop the world I
want to get off. Ok, calm down, take a deep breath, and think. Well
don’t even think, read. Jesus said no one but Father God knows when
the time will be. So what happened here, for the second time! Since
Jesus is the one coming back, he would most certainly be the best
person to ask. Just how do we explain to those not acquainted with
God, about God, while they are snarking at us. What happened here
recently may put Christian credibility back about four thousand
years.
Here is another sad but true fact. Jesus really is coming back. We
do not know when, were not sure exactly where, we do know how, and
what the meaning will be, but people will not be ready, and people
will not listen. It is hard enough to share the divinity of God
without all these merciless distractions. Please do not blame it on
you know who, it is we who have put so much emphasis on our cell phone
calculators. Well all that is, except the Mayans who calculate on
stone. That’s it, that’s the answer. Jesus has to come back before
12/21/2012. That is the date the world will end. Why didn’t I think
of that? Certainly he will pick us up first. Perfect logic. Now I
am really confused!
This really is the first day of the rest of my life. I can choose to
believe that the world is doomed in a year and a half, or choose to
believe the words Jesus spoke. Seems like we are back to square one.
Faith vs. uncertain science. Jesus spoke many words, have you really
listened to them? Or is it that you are a selective listener? If I
look around me, I’m inclined to believe that most Christians are
selective listeners. Think not? Well lets wait and see until about
sixty days before December 2012. I wonder how many Christians will be
stocking up on extra food stores and water. Will you be prepared?
