Service with no endpoint and long running process

Is there a way to write a service that will just continuously perform a task until it is shut down? There is no need for controllers because it will just be a long running process that runs a method.
Right now the only way to write a new service is to just create something that extends HttpServer, but that seems to require controllers.

I think c.t.App will achieve what I want, and the documentation says Finatra at its core is agnostic to the type of service or application being created. It can be used to build anything based on TwitterUtilc.t.app.App.

Is there a wrapper around c.t.app.App inside Finatra?
