Hi all,

We tentatively have 489 Minor Hall, a free room that can host ~75 people! I just need to find an optometry student to sponsor/vouch for our event, since our organization/event content is non-optometry related. I've contacted a handful of friends, and hopefully I'll hear a reply back tomorrow.

Dear Shreya,
If you can find a current Optometry student who will agree to be the "sponsor" for the event - meaning they will be responsible for the keys, the room clean-up, and will be on-hand throughout the event and attend the event, then we would be willing to allow this.
Let me know.
Cheers,
Sharon

Dear Sharon,

We have been checking alternative areas. The larger classrooms and auditoriums in Dwinelle, Wheeler, Haas, Sibley, and Stanley are all booked for the evening of April 12th. Pauley Ballroom is open; however, our student organization cannot afford to host the entire ballroom.

We completely understand that our symposium does not have a direct optometry focus, yet we will be highlighting one of our current projects that strives to improve ocular health. The upcoming project entails collaboration with Sankara Eye Foundation to provide free vision screenings and cataract surgeries in an Indian village.

If it is possible to use 489 Minor Hall, Project RISHI would be greatly appreciative.

Thank you,
Shreya Malli

Dear Shreya,
While we want to be supportive, we do not typically allow for non-Optometry related activities in the School, especially after normal business hours.
Can you book an alternative space through central campus?
Let me know.
Cheers,
Sharon

Dear Office of Student Affairs,

Project RISHI (Rural India Social Health Improvement) is interested in
reserving 489 Minor Hall to host a symposium on social entrepreneurship.
After having a good experience with Minor Hall for a Project Vision
symposium, I think that it would serve as a good setting for the current
event that I am planning. Our key note speaker is Sal Khan, founder of Khan
Academy, who will focus on developing education on a global scale. He has
recently completed a TED talk:
http://www.ted.com/talks/salman_khan_let_s_use_video_to_reinvent_education.html.
Because
Project RISHI works on water, health, and education projects in India, we
hope that such a symposium would be able to project our cause and raise
awareness on international development.

Please let me know if Minor Hall could be used for this occasion. Feel free

YAY, we have a room: 489 Minor Hall 7-10pm. Albert Nguyen, a current 2nd year student, has volunteered to "sponsor" us.

Let's go craycray with the marketing now.

Hey Shreya,

Sounds like a really interesting talk. I can definitely be a student sponsor. Good job on setting this up!

Best,
Albert

Hi all,

Hope everyone's doing well! I wanted to see if any of you are interested in helping out with another event that I am currently organizing in Minor Hall.

I am a part of Project RISHI, a non-profit organization that works to increase access to water, health, and education in rural India. We will be holding a symposium on social entrepreneurship with a focus on education on Tues April 12 from 7-9pm. Our key note speaker is Sal Khan, founder of Khan Academy, who is developing access to education on a global scale. With increasing popularity in his youtube tutorials, Khan has received funding and support from Google, Bill Gates, and has recently completed a TED talk. Project RISHI is holding this event to showcase innovative causes like Khan's and the current projects that our organization works on each summer in India.

I have asked Sharon Joyce if we can use 489 Minor Hall to host this symposium; however, because Project RISHI is not directly optometry-related, she would like for a current optometry student to serve as a "sponsor" for the event-- meaning they will be responsible for the keys, the room clean-up, and will be on-hand throughout the event and attend the event.

If any of you are interested and free on the evening of April 12, please let me know as soon as possible. It will be a unique opportunity to meet a rising social entrepreneur! I promise we'll take care of the clean-up part, so you can have an enjoyable night without much hassle. Also, if you have other friends who might be interested, feel free to forward this e-mail.

Thank you!
Shreya Malli
