This range of orchestral patches covers most of the standard instruments and articulations of a smaller, more intimate sounding orchestra. Designed for students and hobbyists, the original samples are part of the VSCO2 Community edition but have now been scripted for the full version of Kontakt to include legato, round robins and dynamics via the modwheel. Weighing in at just over a gigabyte in size, the samples cover strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion and even two pianos and a church organ. These are all available as separate patches but there are also clever multis which group the instruments into ensembles for easy chord, arpeggio and tutti playing. The bonus harp instrument is a heavenly addition to this fully-featured orchestral package.

"Afflatus Strings is full of creative ideas and the orchestra has been recorded in a combination of ways I have not seen elsewhere." "It's a very playable library that includes a ton of great content and these beautiful sounds are full of character."

This is a library for composers that like realism, lots of detailed control over the sound, and are not afraid to dive in and adjust settings, automate etc. It takes more effort, but the end results is amazingly realistic, and the amount of sound shaping and user control is superb. Perhaps that composer is you?

I decided to only include 1 orchestral string library per developer in this comparison. But you should definitely go ahead and check out their other string libraries in their respective product range.

I have been considering a solo strings library, such as Spitfire's, to play around with for fun (I just play piano/keyboard as a hobby and enjoy film score music). However, I'm new to the world of VSTs, and am not completely clear on how Kontakt works.

For example, Spitfire's solo strings library says that Kontakt Player is included. Does that mean if I purchased that library, it would fully work out of the box with the included Kontakt Player? Or would the Kontakt Player only work in "demo" mode? Like, I installed some version of the Kontakt Player to try out instruments from the Pianobook site, but it is a demo version that forces me to reset it every 15 minutes or so. From what I understand, to unlock the regular version of Kontakt I would need to pay around $600 or so, which is kind of a non-starter for me since I'm just playing with this stuff for fun.

To summarize, if one of our libraries is marked as a Kontakt Player library, it means you will need to install the free Kontakt Player from Native Instruments via their computer application Native Access. You would also be given a serial number from us upon purchase of a Kontakt Player library that you would need to register in Native Access in order to finish the installation process. For more information on the steps to installing a Kontakt Player library, please see this guide: -us/articles/115002805426-How-do-I-authorise-a-Kontakt-Player-library-

If you were to load a Kontakt Player library as you have loaded a Pianobook library (via the Files Tab in Kontakt), it would appear in DEMO mode. This can easily be fixed by registering the serial number in Native Access, thus causing the library to appear in the Libraries Tab of Kontakt.

We also sell some Spitfire Audio libraries that require the full version of Kontakt, such as Orchestral Grand Piano, and Ricotti Mallets, but as you can see these are marked KONTAKT FULL REQUIRED on the product pages. If you were to attempt purchasing a Kontakt full Spitfire Audio library you would be met with a pop up message confirming that you own the full version of Kontakt before completing the purchase.

Alternatively, if you own a Kontakt Player library, you are eligible for a crossgrade offer to the full version of Kontakt for $399. During the summer sale, I believe the cost is also 50% off ($199), but I'm not certain. But even at $199, spending another $100 and going with the Komplete 13 sale option is a no-brainer.

Hi I bought Abbey Rd Orchestra which works fine however after spending two days following the proceedures given for downloading kontakt freeplayer as it suggest in my email from spitfire I have been declined by Native access as it says full kontakt required and I am not registered for crossgrade so 179 extra I have to fork out! Thgis is not clear on buying Solo strings at all or in your email... Maybe Iam mistaken please reply asap...Johnny

Threnody features a comprehensive effects page, with a configurable insert chain featuring Replika, Phasis and other cutting-edge NI effects. The Space Reverb module features Soniccouture's custom impulse library built up over many years and recording sessions.

I downloaded NI session strings 2. It was not showing in Kontakt 5. I upgraded to Kontakt 6, still not showing. Instead, when I click on the library and try to add the software folder Session Strings 2 Library to Kontakt it tells me 'Session Strings 2' already exists within the Kontakt Libraries tab'. But it does not show.

The library includes a full-ensemble preset and 4 Master and True-Legato section presets for 8 Violins, 6 Violas, 5 Cellos and 4 Double Basses. 8Dio Quintet Strings $68 USD Reg $150 USD (KONTAKT FULL)

I have seen this library in the past, but i thought it was just another bundling of the Deep Solo Strings, which I already owned and never clicked on the web page and read or listened to the demos. Today I did and this is one of the beautiful sounding string libraries I've ever heard. I watched Troels walkthrough, watched a review video and forget it, I'm getting this. I don't even have hard drive space (I have a new hard drive I need to install). At $68, at least for me this is a huge no-brainer. Absolutely gorgeous.

To be completely transparent, I'm friends with 8Dio's CEO and I was at their site partially because she asks for my marketing and branding advice, but mostly because I was curious about exactly what they're doing with pricing for the Black Friday sale and stumbled across this. At this point, the string libraries I am in love with and am contemplating buying, are Bunker Samples Viola which is $69 (and sounds different than any other viola library I've heard, in a beautiful way). and Sonixinema's Solo Cello, although buying this collection now makes me uncertain if I'm still going to pick up that cello too. I need to install this and figure that out. But $68 for this, that's great, IMO.

I just bought the library. I have to prepare for a trip, so I wanted to get this done. I love the sound of the strings too much to pass these up. I watched part of the KVR guy's review video and Troel's walkthrough, and that showed me enough about playability and the raw sound to know that this is for me. I just need to install my new hard drive to have a place for them. Unlike Bapu, I cannot say, "Installed!" I can't even say "Downloaded!" I can only say, "Purchased."

"[8Dio's] 'race to bottom' pricing strategy is bad for the industry. It makes things difficult for those of us who are trying to invest in producing quality products and need to price them accordingly. In my own case, I'm over $160k in recording costs alone for our upcoming choir library. $160k. And that's before editing or advertising or licenses or paying myself for my time. Yet I guarantee someone will post on my Facebook ad that it's overpriced, because they got Requiem Pro for 35 bucks. Guaranteed. In fact, I got one of those yesterday on my Nightfall ad, as someone said it should be $39, because that's what Product X is.

It's not healthy for the industry, and from what I've heard, Troels and Tawnia don't give a flying f*ck. (Before they sic Amanda on me again, they're welcome to correct anything I'm saying. I won't delete anything they post.) They've got a large catalog they can keep drawing from, so it will be a while before that well runs dry.

I might add that a year and a half ago, Tawnia told us (here) that 8dio wouldn't be doing sales like this anymore. But ... did anyone really believe her? I didn't, which is why I bookmarked the post.

So yes, I get really pissed off seeing that 8dio Flash Sale thread day after day, bumped to page one of Latest Posts, cycling blowouts on the same damn products (you know they're being repeated, right?) with the same damn discussions, over and over and over. Making a mockery of the companies I do respect.

F*ck that."

It's a collection of violin sections recorded in a way to sound like strings from the 60s and 70s. You know, the type of string sections you'd hear on old soul and r&b records? It comes in Kontakt Player format with a straight forward interface ready to play. You can...
