Book prize for global cultural understanding

Eligibility:
The British Academy is the UK’s national academy for humanities and social sciences, and eligible books might come from the subjects that fall within those disciplines, from sociology, to psychology, history and archaeology, philosophy, languages and cultural studies.
The Prize rewards books that best contribute to improving global cultural understanding among public audiences. The judges are seeking books that demonstrate rigorous original and high-quality research, and that are accessible and engaging to read.
Authors can be of any nationality, based anywhere in the world and working in any language provided that the nominated work has been published in the UK and Ireland, for the first time between the 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023.
Translated books are eligible provided that they are first published in English in the UK between 1 April 2022 and 31 March 2023.
Books that have previously been published outside the UK and Ireland in the English language will only be eligible if the date of original publication is within the previous one year, i.e. not earlier than 1 April 2021.
Previously winning the British Academy Book Prize does not affect an author’s eligibility to enter, provided the entry is for a different non-fiction book.
Authors must be living at the time of submission.

Abstract:
The British Academy Book Prize is awarded annually for a non-fiction book that has made an outstanding contribution to global cultural understanding for a wider public audience. The British Academy is the UK’s national academy for humanities and social sciences, and eligible books come from the subjects that fall within those disciplines, from archaeology, history and psychology to philosophy, languages and cultural studies. The jury will be looking for books that are rigorous and evidence-based, that demonstrate original research and are likely to significantly advance public understanding and debate.

Abstract:
The Tanner
Humanities Center and the Environmental Humanities Program of the University of
Utah request applications for the Annie Clark Tanner Fellowship in
Environmental Humanities and Environmental Justice. This fellowship seeks
an active scholar whose work explores justice, climate, and environment from
the perspective of the humanities. The ideal candidate will have a research
agenda engaged with topics like climate justice, indigenous sovereignty, environmental
racism, climate displacement, or other pressing issues connecting humanities
scholarship with justice and environment. The ideal candidate will also be a
capable teacher, able to explore this work in a seminar with environmental
humanities graduate students.
The Center encourages projects that are interdisciplinary and likely to
contribute to substantive intellectual exchange among a diverse group of
scholars.
