>
>Tressette: A Story of an Island is a charming drama about life on a small Dalmatian island and the very small community there, living an obscure and boring life in the off season. When one member of the community dies, it sparks a desperate search for a replacement player for the card game Treseta. The search for a player reveals hidden secrets of the small community. The individual characters are realistic and superbly acted. This is a brilliant and painful look at a small disappearing community.

>Synopsis: A brother and sister, Miron and Melita, go to visit their friend Zoltan (Liptus) in Kopacevo (Hungarian minority village) for winter vacation. The local residents and hunting lodge members there are involved in a big campaign to help the wild animals from the reserve to survive the winter. The same night Miron and Melita arrive, a boy named Halasz is found half-frozen at the edge of the swamp where, he raves, that he was attacked by a white ghost on one of the islands of the swamp. From then on, he can no longer talk. The old woman Etelka reveals the secret that the ghost had been first seen long ago and that you cannot go to the island because the ghost wreaks vengeance on anyone stepping onto the island. Fear takes hold in the place. The hunters, with Vucevic, Kovacevic and Levay taking the lead, begin an investigation however neither they nor the doctors can help Halasz. Therefore Miron, Liptus and Melita decide to find the ghost and offer to carry it off the island to the shore in exchange making their friend well again. However, the ghost shoots and wounds the hunter Levay proving that the ghost is much more dangerous than was previously thought...

>Branko Istvancic
>
>Branko Istvancic was born in 1967 in Subotica. At Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb graduated Film and TV direction in 1999. Making his first, documentary films at 15, he has continuously been involved with documentary films and has received Croatian as well as international rewards for his work the Grand Prix at Croatian Film Festival, "Oktavijan" and "Zlatna Uljanica" being among them. Deeply enrooted in the Croatian documentary tradition, he pays special attention to the humane, but also humoristic, treatment of his subjects. His last successfully documentary film, Wellman (Bunarman) in 2003, continues this tradition, and elevates the simple story about a well digger to a level of the universal metaphor, but without the pretentious nature of many Croatian documentaries. The critics consider his documentary The Cormorant Scarecrow (Plasitelj kormorana) in 1998, to be one of the best Croatian documentaries of the nineties. His debut The Ghost in the Swamp (Duh u mocvari), with a large number of spectators in national cinemas in 2006, has been chosen to mark the comeback of feature-length films for children, which have not been made by the Croatian film industry for the last twenty years. He is member of Croatian Film Director's Guild.

>Synopsis:

>
>In the dark and deserted streets of the Croatian city of Split's medieval Ghetto, during the final two hours of New Year's Eve, three separate love stories - not directly involved in the festivities - intertwine with each other. Three couples find themselves near the main Roman Square: a smalltime drug dealer Nick and a widow Maria with her son; a young junkie in a crisis Maja, and a depressed American sailor Franky and a pair of naive teenagers, Luke and Angela. They all unsuccessfully try to escape their individual extreme situations only to find their lives permanently and irreversibly changed. As we see their stories develop a major concert performed by a lively singer unfolds before an emotional crowd gathered to usher in the New Year, along with a traditional fireworks display at the stroke of midnight. A smart screenplay ties all three stories to an expertly made film noir. Received the Special Award for Mirko Pivcevic's camerawork in Cottbus.
