Ryan Villopoto picked a gate further toward the middle than many of his competitors, and was rewarded with a lead as they exited turn one, and he was followed by Josh Hill (San Manuel / Yamaha / JSE) and Kevin Windham (GEICO Powersports Honda), while Dungey was sitting in fourth spot. Chad Reed (Monster Energy Kawasaki) and Andrew Short (Honda Red Bull Racing), both of who were returning to action after injuries, were both mired in midpack.
Windham quickly went to work and got by Hill for second, and kept pace with Ryan Villopoto, and actually reeling him in a bit. Things started to get interesting for Dungey on lap six, when he went by Josh Hill, but then Ivan Tedesco (Valli Motorsports Rockstar Yamaha) got past both of them. They stayed that way until lap 11, when Dungey stalled his RM-Z, which allowed Hill, Davi Millsaps (Honda Red Bull Racing), and Chad Reed to get by, and dropped Dungey back to seventh, while his series rival continued to run out front.
Chad Reed made a good comeback with a fourth, and he was followed by Dungey, Tommy Hahn (Rockstar Energy Suzuki), Davi Millsaps and Andrew Short (Honda Red Bull Racing). Two of the hardest charging rides of the night belonged to Justin Brayton and Tommy Hahn, who both charged from 16th and 17th, to a ninth for Brayton, and a sixth for Hahn.
The series will reconvene next weekend in St. Louis, for the final round of the Lites East series, and a continuation of the battle between Dungey and Villopoto for the 2010 Monster Energy Supercross crown.
