I think the vote is still not updated. With anne's vote, DeSica should
have 4. So I also vote for De Sica. I love Deyer as well but there is
still so much of De Sica's work left to be explored and usually when a
director has a month here I tend to "finally get around to it" and
watch there films that I have been meaning to for a long time. So vote

Hello – I would like to vote for Milos Forman; although my vote isn’t really fair as I don’t know the other two directors.  One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, omg! And Amadeus was very good I thought.

Amadeus is a great film. Most likely I've seen it more times than I'll ever see any Dreyer or De Sica film :)

His Loves of a blonde from 1964 is amazing, his extrordinary feeling for portraiting human nature in all these different forms and characters is quite extraordinary, the written situations and the overall mise-en-scene is really fresh and original... and in my opinion not even The Firemens Ball, One Flew or Amadeus reach those higher levels of poetic simplicity in the camera aesthetics as in relation to story vs form. Maybe its just because I love the story and his handling of beautiful black/white photography much more than his later works...

I would have to agree with Kasper that Amadeus is indeed a great film, not just very good as I previously stated.  I still have to rank One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest higher though because of how large an ensemble cast it entailed.  I will look into these other two directors as they must both be extremely brilliant to have received all the votes and one of my all-time favorites got 0; or I just see things through a different lens, so to speak.  To me it’s not the volume of films that a director makes but more can he make even one classic that stand the test of time and reaches ones heart and soul.

Both of them made classics that stood the test of time Chris, even more so than Forman. Carl Theodor Dreyer made my all time favorite film and one of the most important film in film history, The Passion of Joan of Arc. He made many many other great films also. Vittorio De Sica made Bicycle Thieves, on of the most important film in film history. It is as basic in realism as Indiana Jones in adventure films, a film every single film class shows and all film students know by heart.

I am very alike Chris on this point. In fact, Milos Forman is my favourite of the three I nominated and I wanted him to be elected. But I know that he wasn't going to make it when I chose the other two as nominees because they are so influential and so many people who know a lot about cinema love them. I haven't seen much from either Dreyer or De Sica, and what I've seen, such as Bycicle theives and and Vampyr, where slightly  dissapointing (BT because I really don't like neorealism so much even though I apreciate its value, and Vampyr because I doesn't measure up to other old horror movies like Nosferatu). Anyway, by soccer team in the intramurals league in my university is called Bycicle Thieves as a homage to the film, because some of my teammates adore it. BTW, this is also my last semester (as Natalie's) in college so I'm also not participating a lot because I have a lot going on. Has anyone else here seen Goya's Ghosts? what did you think of it? I loved it and I don't think I remember having discussed it on this club.

Thanks Jerami for making me aware of His love of blonde and The Firemans Ball and I just looked at his filmography and see he made quite a lot of films many of which I have seen and didn’t know he directed and he has a new one coming out call “the Ghost of Munich”.  I think they did show The Bicycle Thief in the film class I was in 30 years ago, I will have to read about it and see if I want to see it.
