It would seem a shame to film a story about the
Appalachian area, out of the area. It seems like all Hollywood types are
interested in booze, girls and golf.
Well, Hollywood, There they are. Plenty of each in
BSG.
Many stories are filmed somewhere else, and then no
one goes to see the movie, because card board, is still card board. The movie
Across The Wide Missouri was filmed in the mountains of Colorado. The only
redeeming fact, was Clark Gable was in it, not the mighty Missouri! Trail of the
Lonesome Pine was filmed in Hollywood, with background shots of West VA made out
of card board. Now it seems to me, that this movie could be shot in Big Stone
Gap just as easily as in SC. At least try to keep it in the Appalachian
Mountains. People, of today are not as easily fooled into believing SC is
Appalachia. I lived in BSG for two years, graduated from HS there and plan to
make my 50th reunion next year. Many people I know from the West know the
difference between the flatland of SC, the desert of WY, the Rockies, and the
Appalachians. It would be a crime to shoot this movie anywhere else but where it
was written. However, since the Eastern half of VA disowns the Western
half of VA FLA may just get into the act. Southwest VA has always been the
stepchild of the rest of the State, except when votes are necessary. So, it
is the duty of the State of VA to pull itself up out of the bogs of
Richmond and do something for your stepchild, besides run it down.
