I just bought my Macbook Pro, and I've been getting it setup the way I want it. I installed Google Chrome and it left a white drive icon the desktop. I've tried putting it in the trash bin, but it says it cannot be deleted because Chrome is using it (even though there is no chrome window open). I've also tried dragging it into a folder in Finder (applications, documents, etc.) and it will copy it into the folder, but the icon is still there on the desktop. What should I do? Is there another way I can hide it or cut and paste it into a folder?

On images that we build we install the chrome browser (all users version). The cheeky little thing always creates a desktop icon when a new user logs in, despite there being no obvious way of preventing this (no all users desktop folder icon, no startup/logon process or task). We have also found this to be the case when deploying Chrome via group policy.

B: We manage our desktop icons via redirected desktops for most users, this just makes us look silly, all the icons we want are there in their nice little group folders, but oh look, there's important Chrome, as always, standing out on it's own.

Thanks for your reply Jonah.
The information you've provided looks promising however I don't have the file in the location it should be in. This is definitely after running chrome a number of times and after reboots. Also the function in the file that pertains to icons does not seem to be related to removing the desktop icon, I think it's saying what exe chrome should look at to get it's icon file from.

Thanks S.Lee, brilliant, for me this should do the trick as I remove all Taskbar icons with GP anyway so our users don't see the chrome taskbar icon anyway, but I'm aware of it. Haven't tested this yet but I believe you!

Hi George, had a good look at them a few months back, relatively limited and didn't offer help with this particular issue but thanks, that is unless they've been updated recently. I'm talking about desktop icon now, not taskbar, haven't checked them for that.

Hi Maggie, What ive found is that even with the enterprise msi download, only part of the master_preferences file actually works for example I still get a desktop icon and taskbar icon, however you can remove the desktop icons using some simple PowerShell to remove the .ink file, however to remove the taskbar icon I am a still stumped, I know theres a reg value you could use - I just need to find it!

For example the PowerShell am using is " Remove-Item -Path "C:\Users\Public\Desktop\Google Chome.ink -Force"

unfortunately its saved as a binary so you have to export those keys from a pre-configured user account and then udpate to the user shell GPO
current data creates pinned icons of: file explorer, outlook and IE:

Not sure why people are having difficulties with this but just tried Chromes directions and it works like a charm. No desktop or taskbar icon. All I did was get their enterprise bundle here https:/ Opens a new window/cloud.google.com/chrome-enterprise/browser/download which has a preferences file all created. You just need to edit true/false where needed. Place that file in the install location and no more icons. Maybe they fixed things in the latest version? Not sure but I would give this another try because I have all of 10 minutes involved and was thinking it was going to be a pain to roll out Chrome in our organization.

Francis, I have this same issue. Updated the application to Chrome 33 and its the same. The only thing I did differently to my previous package (v26) was that after opening the application before post scanning, i remove the Chrome icon that is pinned to the task bar. Wonder if that is somehow related or just pure coincidence. About to do another build, so ill report back

For Flash, I solved the problem. To do this, I had to manually download the Flash player from the Adobe Site (for other browser) and install it (as part of the capture or as an applink). You then need to disable the Flash sandbox by editing the mms.cfg file located under c:\windows\system32\macromed\Flash. In that Config file, you need to add the following line: ProtectedMode=0. Once it's done, you need to open Chrome and on the address bar, type chrome://plugins. You will see the line Adobe Flash Player (2 files). It means that Chrome is seeing both embeded and installed Flash player. You will see at the right of the screen a Details option that you can explode. Once you do it, you will have to deactivate the embeded one. Everything that contains Flash will be working after that. Still looking for the Icon problem. I'll post it here if I find something.

I have tried packaging on 32 and 64 bit machines in Thinapp 5.0. The only time I can get the icon to appear on the taskbar is if the machine alread has chrome installed. I cant find much information on changing the default icon for a program in windows 7 without using a 3rd party tool. I am trying to can figure that out so I will be able to see the location Chrome is trying to pull this icon from. I had to do the Flash hack as well to get that working.

Hello there, I've just installed Zorin Os 16.2 on my laptop to use on a daily basis. I like the clear-cut design and responsiveness of the OS but have a minor icon problem that makes me frustrated It's really basic but after installing google chrome when I put google chrome on the desktop as an icon it shows a google logo rather than the obvious google chrome logo is there a way to change it to the original chrome icon? Thank you for your efforts! Ekran Görüntüsü - 2023-02-12 17-02-13200x303

*You can make shortcut icons to websites on the desktop or taskbar (More tools/create shortcut). They show up in Start/Google Apps (delete the one on the desktop, it doesn't work). Make shortcuts from there. You can delete them with the Main Menu app.

You can use this to create shortcuts to web sites on the desktop in Firefox with icon (after you find the icon). Just drag the lock to the desktop. Too bad there's no way to get it on the taskbar (that I know of)

We publish a XenApp 7.11 desktop to users. On the desktop of this session we publish applications via sso. At logon, these icons get created fine, no problem. But, after X minutes all those icons go blank/white, but keep working. Happens most of the time, not always, to make it easier...

When Citrix receiver refreshes the icons, it creates shortcuts on the desktop and icon files in %appdata%\Citrix\SelfService\Icons. The icon files saved in that location have a unique Timestamp on it.

Step 6: Select the Settings icon resembling a gear from the pop-up window, locate an app or notification in the list and deselect the box next to it. If updates are required for an extension or app, the entry will remain, but the box will be unchecked. User permission is required for the first time the new version of the program loads.

Step 1: You can use this method using Chrome on any Android device. Just look for the Lock icon beside the address bar on any website. Select it to access a pop-up menu, from which you'll then choose Permissions > Notifications.

In Windows 10, when you compress a file or folder, its icon will have a double blue arrows overlay at the top right corner to indicate that it's a compressed file or folder. If you are not happy to see the blue arrow, you can remove them. This article will show you how to remove the double blue arrows icon in Windows 10.

Next to Create a desktop shortcut on your device to access directly to this profile, Ensure the toggle switch is blue. The shortcut will be named according to the profile name with a chrome desktop icon.

Launch the Google Chrome browser from your desktop. The Chrome icon looks like a colored ball with a blue dot at the center. You can find it in your Applications folder on a Mac, or on your Start menu on Windows.

What if the video constantly stops to buffer (or looks choppy)? We recommend viewing from a wired connection with a download bandwidth of at least 3000-5000Kbps (3-5Mbps). However the stream may require higher speeds if the stream is being encoded at a higher bitrate. To test your speed, go to www.speedtest.net. Bandwidth fluctuates constantly (especially on WiFi and mobile internet), so running 3 tests is recommended.
