Yeah!  And we can talk about really scaling it too, just in case mor.ph would not support us.

Re "Disaster Tool", if I'm not mistaken, Dan's Disaster Tool is the project adopted by Google in the recent disaster relief in Chile.

Yun yung chismis ko. I'll let Dan verify. :)

Nope. :)~

That is Google's Internal Disaster Tool.  But it was made from the inspiration of Disaster Tool for Ondoy.

Hello,

If the focus will be on Disaster Tools, I think it makes sense to add
Google Maps API into the list of topics to discuss or talk about.
I would be interested to know how many markers is too many and
techniques to effectively use maps to visualize disaster data without
bogging down the user's browser.

I'm currently working on the UI for a search interface for data
gathered from Ushahidi by the CrisisCamp people about the Haiti
earthquake and I'm very much interested to learn more about using the
Google Maps API for this sort of thing. It currently runs on top of
LAMP but I'm sure it could easily be ported to run on GAE which is
probably the next thing I would be interested to know more about.

You can have a peak of the app as it is now in http://crisiscamp.crisismappers.info/search/

Looking forward to making it to the meetup and meeting everyone.

Best,

Hamilton

Hi Hamilton,

That is some sweet app you got there.  Great work!

If the focus will be on Disaster Tools, I think it makes sense to add
Google Maps API into the list of topics to discuss or talk about.
I would be interested to know how many markers is too many and
techniques to effectively use maps to visualize disaster data without
bogging down the user's browser.

I think the focus of the talk would be less of Disaster Tools but rather a pass through on major Google Tools, most of the people might have already known this but we can focus on areas you want to delve on.
(as long as I know enough about it. :)

I'm not Maps API expert, I owe most of what I know to somebody who helped me with Disaster Tools, but we did run into scaling issues -- most I learned the hard way.  (Thanks Nick!)

So there you have it!  The table is open for whatevery you guys want to talk about.
It would be a very informal talk, so no fancy slides and all that I could talk about I would. :)

I'll create a quick form for everybody interested to voice on what they want depth on.

Dan

Hi Dan,

I contributed nonetheless to the survey even though its impossible for me to make it (due to class) despite my earnest and eager desire to learn those stuff!! haha. maybe for the record you could keep it so as to contribute to the overall tally of what interests people. lol.

Thanks,

Done with zero coding around 2 hours during ondoy: http://fingerapps.com/cdc/

You can probably over lay the Gdacs KML on the crisis map as well
