Anyone here interested in things like artificial intelligence, mind uploading, and the singularity? Might want to checkout an upcoming conference in Manila that highlights the contributions of Alan Turing, who is considered the father of computer science. For more details, kindly see below.

About Turing 2012
In March 2012, De La Salle University-Manila's Department of Philosophy, in cooperation with the College of Computer Science and College of Liberal Arts, will host Turing 2012, an event that commemorates the centenary birth anniversary of English logician, mathematician, and computer scientist Alan Turing, who is considered by many as the father of the modern digital computer.

Turing 2012 is part of the global effort spearheaded by the Turing Centenary Advisory Committee (TCAC) in celebrating the Alan Turing Year (www.turingcentenary.eu). A two-day international conference, dubbed "Turing 2012: International Conference on Philosophy, Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science," on Turing's contributions in several disciplines will be its highlight. For the conference details, kindly see below or visit the event website at http://turing.pilosopiya.com/conference.

Call for papers

The conference will focus on different academic fields Turing directly influenced, like computer science, artificial intelligence, psychology, mathematics, philosophy, cryptography, biology, and theories of computing. It will also feature topics which could be associated to him, such as developments in cyberspace, gender studies, and international relations, to name a few. Suggested topics, but not limited to, include the following:
  • Computer science, computing and cognitive science
  • Singularity, artificial intelligence and consciousness
  • Internet crimes, code-breaking and cryptography
  • Cyberspace and the future of international relations
  • LGBT issues, policies and legislation
If you are interested to attend and/or present a paper, kindly visit http://turing.pilosopiya.com. Deadline for submitting abstracts will be on February 6, 2012. Full papers are due for submission on or before March 4, 2012. The best papers from the conference will be considered for publication in special editions of the International Journal of Computational Vision and Robotics (IJCVR) and International Journal of Information and Communication Technology (IJICT).

Registration deadline, which includes depositing the conference fee through UCPB, will be on March 19, 2012 for local attendees. Foreign delegates, on the other hand, have until February 26, 2012 to register and email the copies of their airline tickets.
