It would be better to start once again with "Filipinism" not with the major events happening in our country's history, but with the little things contributing to the affirmation or corruption of our country.

We notice that various "small news" presented by media - the bits of unresolved news here and there. This also accounts for the sad state of journalism in the country. A little bit of unresolved news here and there each day would give us a picture of a fragmented situation of a country desperately searching for solutions to end poverty and corruption.

But what comes out are little bits of news about the happenings in Mindanao, the automation of the polls, and the impending President's SONA which may be a cause to convene both Houses into a Constituent Assembly.

While all these things are happening, the incidents of the poor having no insurances to take care of them like medical bills and no savings for the future continue to threaten the peace and security of the ordinary Filipino.

Perhaps we would do well to start defining where we want the country to go; we can also start looking beyond the candidates running for President and go beyond the words of the President Arroyo that the Presidential elections would continue at all cost but leaves the public hanging on whether she will run as Congresswoman to position herself should there be a change from Presidential to Parliamentary form of government.

Meanwhile, would the incumbent Vice President Noli de Castro be crystal clear as regards his political plans to run for President and why is another Cabinet member seemingly being groomed for President? If de Castro were to state finally that he has the credibility and the heart for such a worthy office, then early this time, let him say so and not simply rely on his popularity.

What we all need is a candidate willing to risk his self-interest, his time, talent and treasure to turn the state of this country around for a definitive good - that this country is for ALL Filipinos and the EVERYONE more so the POOR have every right to live decent lives in their own Motherland.
