Is there a variable populated in Tasker when you select a file using
Browse Files? I've been trying to make it so that I can select a
file, populate a variable, and then have Tasker perform actions on the
file (text file).

Hi,
No, sorry.
The 'official' way to do this is to use File Magic for selecting a file.
It sets %PATH and runs a task for you.

Ouch! I've been using my own variable %PATH for quite some time now,
but only began using File Magic recently. I would imagine that I'm
creating problems by doing this. Thank you for the reply.
