I hate the first message on this board to be a crash report, but...

I downloaded and installed FileMagic.1.6b.apk

After reading the the instructions, I go to my files. It defaults to /
sdcard/.

I tap downloads... it briefly is surrounded by a fence, and then File
Magic locks up. I need to force close.

The next open, it skips the instructions.

Ideas?

That's OK :)

I expect you've got some enormous file in Downloads that causes
problems. Can
you move around everywhere else OK ?

You can always access the instructions via Menu.

I'm a bit tied up with my paid-for app Tasker ATM, I won't have time to look
at the FM issues that are cropping up for at least a week unfortunately.

Hi Pent,

Nope, all folders crash when tapped.

I encourage the development of Tasker. I am trying File Magic because
I saw the sticky message in Tasker about it.

Well, I'll be darned. I tapped a small folder, and it didn't
respond. I got called into a meeting, and when I came out, the folder
was open and I could see the three files inside. Then I could open
other folders.

It's like it is taking minutes to scan the entire sdcard. Or
something.

"Patience is a virtue" -- maybe I should learn this.

It does scan the card to calculate directory content sizes, but
shouldn't noticeably
impair being able to move around. It only takes a a second or so on my
G1 8GB card.

Knowing this, I kept my phone alive to see how long it stays with the
"busy" comet in the upper right. It took about 2 minutes for the scan
to complete, and to show the size in the folder, during which File
Magic is non-responsive. If you click while it is scanning, it
appears to require a force close.

I have an 8GB card on my MyTouch Slide.

I tried disabling the "show subdir size" to see if it would cancel
scanning. Doesn't seem to, and clicking before the scan is complete
requires a force close (the busy indicator stops).

Just FYI at this point.

Thanks for the info!

Would you say you had 10 million files or just 5 million on that card ?

:)

Hmm, maybe you have a combination of slow phone, slow card and many files.

Try disabled Menu / Prefs / Collect Subdir Info

Oh, first try disabled Search From Root, there are some wierd files
there usually maybe it's sticking.

You made me wonder.

I turned off the phone, pulled the uSD out and put it into my USB
thumbdrive conversion. I mounted the card under Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
(Lucid Lynx). Then I used:

ls -1R | wc -l

to see how many files I have. It takes about half a second to tell me
that there are 32938 files.

I'll try disabling the stuff you suggested.
