ICOPHIL

The International Conference on the Philippines will be held at Michigan State University (USA) on October 28-30, 2012. There are a number of Toronto-based professors, students, and community folks who will be driving together and presenting at the conference.

November Event #1: Public Lecture by Professor Robert Diaz

Robert Diaz of Wilfrid Laurier University will be giving a public lecture at the University of Toronto as part of the Speakers Series of the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies. Please save the date/time – November 9, 2012 (Friday) from 2 to 4 pm. Forthcoming will be the lecture title, description, and location.

November Event #2: Kritikal Kolektibo Meeting

Right after Professor Diaz's lecture on November 9th from 4 to 6 pm, there will be a discussion regarding the next collective project for Kritikal Kolektibo. We have received numerous inquiries at the book launch about "what's next?" Similar to our efforts in convening the first national symposium in 2009 and the development of the edited book, we thought that a discussion is a good way to figure out what we can do together. So if you're interested and available, come and join us.

Filipino Canadian Listservs

We have developed two listservs, which we will be using exclusively starting January 1, 2013. One is for "academic issues" (e.g., faculty job postings, conferences, academic lectures and workshops, new courses). The other one is for "community issues" (e.g., community events, public recognitions, social gatherings, less academically oriented).

If you are not a member of these listservs, make sure that you sign up at your earliest convenience. Roland will no longer be sending Kolektibo emails via his UofT email account starting January 1st.
