The Filipiniana Library started as a collaborative project of Filipino
Centre Toronto, UP
Alumni Association Toronto and Folklorico Filipino. It was conceived
to provide the
GTA’s Filipino community with an extensive source of information on
all things Filipino.
The library opened on September 24, 2006.
At present, close to 400 books are in the library’s collection. Titles
include subjects on
Philippine history, people, language, economy, politics, arts and
culture. A small collection
of postcards, maps, artifacts and reference materials are available.
Nilo Espino, a former UPAA Toronto Council member, spearheaded the
campaign to
solicit book donations for the library. Through his efforts, the Ayala
Foundation’s Filipinas
Heritage Library made the initial book contribution to the present
collection.
Friends of Filipiniana include individuals, families, media and
institutions in the Greater
Toronto Area’s Filipino community. Philippine donors include
institutions such as:
the Filipinas Heritage Library & Benigno Aquino, Jr. Memorial
Foundation as well as
individual donors.
