Hi there,

I bought a Rev D board back in '11, serial number 4007. Built it, run it  - everything ok. I remember firwareware updates through 0.9 and looks like I managed to load up the 1.0.0 firmware too, but sadly it was put away when I emigrated in 2013.

Fastforward 6 years and two kids, and fignition is back. Plugged into a LCD screen, all is well. Until I broke it.

I was typing on the little keyboard, but my fingers were carelessly on the back of the board, and I've probably shorted out something.
Anyway, now all I get is a blank screen :(

I've checked voltages, and I'm seeing 5v on pin 1 of the ATMega,  Also at top pins on the left switches, but 0.7v on the rest.
Holding down the left switch gets me a solid red LED light when I plug in.

USB to Ubuntu gives me the sad read error

usb 2-1.2: new low-speed USB device number 88 using ehci-pci
usb 2-1.2: device descriptor read/64, error -32
usb 2-1.2: device descriptor read/64, error -32

and there's nothing about USBasp for 05dc  16c0 in the lsusb command

inevitably avrdude is sad too
avrdude: error: could not find USB device with vid=0x16c0 pid=0x5dc vendor='www.fischl.de' product='USBasp'

So this is a 1.0 release, which has the big change for audio support rewriting the firmware/bootloader. My RevD doesn't have audio input, but when I read the release PDF it didn't jog any recollection about running the Migrator hex; anyway I do remember seeing it was running 1.0.0 (or 1.0.1) when I broke it.

I'm stumped on what to check next, I don't have an oscilloscope or a ISP, but these could be sourced if necessary.

Thanks for reading this far.

Cheers

R

Hi Rob,

Yes, maybe you damaged the Flash with some static. If you send me your AVR (because I'm interested in seeing if it can be programmed with a proper in-circuit programmer), I'll send you a new one properly programmed (it will be an AtMega328, though it will still work the same way).

The address is:

Now that is service! Thanks Jules. Glad you're still here.

I'll post you, prolly take a few weeks over Xmas.

I'll order a RevE from you in the mean time, so that I can get one with the audio mod.

Hi Rob,

Wow- that’s brilliant, I have a few in stock! I think you caught me at a good time, because I’m much slower than normal mostly owing to having a full-time job these days.

But I’ll sort it in time for Christmas :-)

-cheers Julz

Hello!

Greetings from Australia.

I just got my FIGnition out to have a play and make a YouTube video ... but it seems dead too.  I can see the AVR is getting power but no LED or video output.

I see everything is on github ... but for the PCB ... what file format is the TXT file?  I have to admit, when it comes to PCBs I just "upload the gerbers!" ... but I have no idea what to do with the TXT file - I can see it's some sort of layout.

I'll try to fix my FIGgy tomorrow ... I've got plenty of replacement AVRs ... ?

Brett.

I think the pcb was designed in Osmond PCB...
but haven't tried it. I also recently powered up the fignition, and was exploring adding a custom external 8-button keypad.

https://github.com/Snial/FIGnition
"From version 0.9.7 the source for the PCB is included in Circuit/PCB. It's in Osmond format, a Mac OS X PCB Cad Package, but since I do actually edit the source to create parts and modify the PCB I consider it human-readable and therefore a valid OSH file format."

Ahh, thanks Bob - I missed that part.

Having difficulties with it - I'll start a new thread.
