Greetings to YOU!

This is a call for a special corpse of volunteers need for one special event..

           << It's also a short distribution; please do not forward >>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GROUNDBREAKING is... our signature, annual fund-raising event.
... the official opening of our season efforts to bring participatory arts to Governor's Island
... a fancy event, with a Warhol-FACTORY theme where art patrons come to lift up our project, and we inspire them right back!
Groundbreaking 2012 takes place in Soho, on Wednesday,  April 4, 2012.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We need up to 30 Volunteers - at least 10 of which will be available on the day of the event (as early as 10am) to help with setup and space creation, and 20  to make the event itself happen (til as late as 1am).   If you are available for the entire time, then we'd love to have you on the setup AND the execution teams.

Balancing sweat equity vs fund raised dollars - because this is a fund-raiser, we ask all of you who are able and willing to purchase a ticket to this event to do so.  Let yourself enjoy the party as a ticket holding guest if you can, and let the the rest of us take up the sweaty tasks as our contribution to the party.

Some of the rolls we need to fill include (but are hardly limited to):
- art handlers, art hangers - white gloves & hammers, yes?

- spreadsheet masters who can catalog the silent auction submissions as they arrive

- food servers - hold that tray steady, FACTORY inspired uniforms will be provided / requested.

- door greeters - folks to take admission or tickets as folks arrive, iPhone owners step right up.  FACTORY inspired uniforms will be provided / requested.

- coat check persons -

- raffle ticket sellers - bright, sparkly, engaging personalities... in FACTORY infused dress up

- photo booth folk - create backgrounds, take photos, print photos, accept $$/donations for each photo

- silk-screeners to create works on the spot!  - please be experienced in making screens, and printing.
We are expecting!   Over 200 people, all VIP arts' patrons.. The event is attended by a mixture of city officials, artists, taste makers and members of the city’s tech, education, theater, fashion, finance and advertising industries. Our theme is Andy Warhol’s Factory.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
JOIN US!   ... in 3 easy steps
- 1. verify that you have the day or evening free, Wed 4 April 2012, 10am +/- til 5pm, and 5pm til 1am (or shifts therein)
- 2. reply to this email with your TOP 3  interests (based on the list above) and the time you have free
- 3. add a best phone number to call you back.
PLEASE NOTE:   This is mostly a first to answer gets the gig call for volunteers..  We know everyone wants to join the party and help to lift up FIGMENT in ways non-monetary.   Yet because this is a fundraiser, we must limit our team, and our gifts of free entry.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
WHAT YOU (probably) ALREADY KNOW:

FIGMENT, an interactive arts festival, has been taking place in NYC on Governors Island for the past 5 years. FIGMENT is an environmentally-responsible event. Nothing is sold at FIGMENT and no one makes a profit. The event is entirely free. We raise money through individual donations and grants. FIGMENT demonstrates what the arts can be: participatory, bursting with creativity and born from the desire to share imagination and invention between artists and the public. FIGMENT is a grassroots effort, of over 300 volunteers who work hard to make a gift of art to NYC.

Annually, over 22,000 people attend FIGMENT.  Hundreds of artists create work. We envision every guest as a participant, so that FIGMENT itself can be seen as one large art project. At FIGMENT, it’s okay to touch the art: in fact, it’s encouraged. We believe education comes from engagement. The result is art as dialogue, forming the basis for a collaborative, constructive community. Children (and adults) play, have fun, and look at the world with fresh eyes. Many New Yorkers are transitional, arriving here to pursue education or a career, and then ultimately relocating elsewhere. FIGMENT seeks to provide a community-based experience that is open to everyone, giving even the most temporary of residents a place to belong. In a time when so many people are struggling to get by, FIGMENT provides a place where you don’t need currency to be rich. We are proud to celebrate an abundance of inspiration as our participants all bring gifts that they have to offer and share the wealth.

Hello!

I'd love to do some sweat equity, as I'm not sure I can afford to attend otherwise.
I'm free beginning at 1:30 that Wednesday, for preferably the following jobs-

DAY OF:
art handlers, art hangers
spreadsheet masters

EVENING OF:
food servers (10 years in the service industry)
OR....I am a bartender and have been for years...if you are planning on hiring a bartender, DON'T!  I'd be happy to do it.
or a photo booth folk sounds pretty fun!

thanks.

an iphone for credit processing ease.

If it's not too late... I can help with the second shift.  I have an iPhone so I can greet, or work the photo booth, or raffle tickets.  Anything really.  I'm open and happy to help.  My number is 646-280-5397.

Have a great day
Sarah
