to FIGHT! The Fighting Game RPG
I haven't spoiled much about the new book here recently (in part, because re-doing Elements and Liabilities has taken several times as long as the 1st 3 chapters combined).  Any requests for spoilers? I'd be happy to oblige if I can.

(Also, I tend to drop small spoilers on the Discord server somewhat more frequently.)

I'd like to hear more. Also, if someone was plannning on starting a new game is the second edition close enough that it would be better to just wait for the new edition?

I would like an estimate release date, too. Even if you can just nail it down to what quarter of 2018 would be fine.

Also, knowing more about how Mobility got split up and if there will be major changes in the Combat chapter (aside from rewriting Environmental Hazards, which you hinted at on the Server).

Well, like I said, what "more" would you like to hear about? :)
As for your question, I'd say to still start now.  Two reasons:
1) There's no release date yet, so you'd be holding up your game for an indeterminate period of time.  (More on that in another response here.)
2) The new edition is not re-designing the wheel.  My original plan was to make the new edition 95% compatible with the present edition.  I quickly learned (and I thank my developers especially for this) that if I did that, there wasn't much point to even *having* a new edition.  That being said, "backwards compatibility" is still a prime design goal, so I'd say we're about 90% compatible, depending on how unusual your character is.  Even so, many, many characters will just need to do some re-figuring of damage and that's it.

You're still not going to get me to nail down a release date. :) I can tell you the *plan* and I can tell you why I can't be more specific than that.

The *plan* would be late 2018.  This is not a projected release date!

Here's why I can't be more specific.  When I started the 2nd edition, writing went very quickly.  I did the 1st 3 chapters (of 6) in about 3 months.  So I thought, "At this rate, I could be done writing summer 2017!" Then we got to Building Special Moves...and we're not finished yet...and it's taken 9 months to do...because the changes are really good. :)

I think the last 2 chapters will go pretty smoothly.  More on that in a minute.  After writing is done, I need to raise money to publish it.  I'm a writer and designer with absolutely no graphical skills whatsoever.  I need to hire an editor and a graphic designer to give the new book a look worthy of its source material.  And then there's the art.  I know at least one artist I want to use and he's pretty fast, but other artists aren't, and I can't expect one guy to do all the art for a 275-page book (and I *still* probably won't be able to afford as much art as I want).

So it's like this: even if the writing were done in February (which I'd like to see happen), a lot of it then goes out of my direct control and relies on the timetables of other people.  And because it's out of my control, I don't want to announce a date that I have little power to actually control.

I'll wait on Mobility till another post; this has taken me a while to type.

Other than Environmental Hazards, there are no anticipated major changes and only a handful of minor ones.  The die size progression has changed to make better mathematical sense, a couple Defensive Responses are being tweaked, a couple have been added, and that's about it.  The combat system works well, so I'm not going to accidentally break it. :)

(Chapter 6 will also not have major changes, though I want to write a couple new sections on how to prep campaigns more easily.)

Will there be new rules or suggestions for handling aspects of fighting games that have become popular since the first release like Stun Bars and the ability to effectly absorb attacks for temporary damage that recovers over time but avoid affects like Knockback and Knockdown from the attack?

Any "pre-offers" for Kickstarter support are greatly appreciated.  That is likely the form I will use to raise money.

A version of Stun Bars is already in Round 2.  I don't think I'd do anything as specific as double color damage bars that have become more popular - but maybe in Round 3 if it seems like something really necessary to emulate current generation games.  Your last example was unclear to me; do you have a character/game in mind?

Double colored damage bars are mostly used in team based fighters like Marvel versus capcom, Or in killer instinct. In KI cama the extra damage is cashed in by performing an Ender to your combo. Other than that, it heals. In the verses series, The extra damage heals why your main character is not on the field of battle and a partner is tagged in period

Yeah, the Tag Team healing is already in the rules.  I haven't had a chance to play KI (the current one) yet.

I always like Campaign seeds, how about offering up character spots in the book. For example, if you had 3-4 seeds "Generic Fighting Game" "2D Brawler" "3D Fighter", etcetera, you could put 4 or so characters for each to show how the character builds differ.

I may put more campaign seeds in like I did last time (if I can come up with a few I really like), but...on this suggestion, I'm going to tell you that this one isn't going to happen.  Designing a memorable character, commissioning art for it, and then formatting a character sheet for a book is a lot of work (and money).  Suggesting 4 for each campaign seed is a book in itself.

Also, just to put us back on track, this thread was a request to ask about or see stuff that is in 2nd edition that has been worked on, rather than a future request list of things you'd like to see.  I'll get to that later!
