| NOTE:
In this flood-recovery stage, DIL’s fundraising priorities are now
re-focused again on the key DIL efforts: schools and libraries, teacher
training, technology, and vocational training.
DIL RAISES $100,000 IN THE U.S. FOR EMERGENCY FLOOD-RELIEF IN PAKISTAN; URGENCY FOR SCHOOLS AND CRITICAL PROGRAMS NEVER GREATER
DIL
extends deep appreciation to its supporters for their amazing efforts
during this summer’s catastrophic flooding that has impacted much of
Pakistan. Thanks to widespread, grassroots awareness-building,
event-planning, and fundraising, DIL raised almost $100,000 in the
United States.
About $20,000 of this was dedicated to help a total of 10,000 people across Pakistan for:
- Immediate emergency aid: food, infant formula, hygiene kits (soaps, clothing, mosquito nets)
- Helping 12 house reconstructions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- Three Medical camps in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
- Repairing six damaged DIL schools in Khairpur
The remaining proceeds are dedicated to:
- Rebuilding and/or repairing five schools in Jamshoro and Dadu to support 620 students and 32 teachers to return to education
- Helping
up to four villages in Khairpur by rebuilding homes and restoring water
and sanitation. DIL will also help farmers restore flooded land, so it
can again support income-producing crops
Unfortunately,
8,000 schools across Pakistan were destroyed, and all government
schools in Sindh are being used as emergency shelters. The global
community is even more awakened to the realization that education is the
only solution to Pakistan’s long-term stability and prosperity.
Please
know how valuable and inspiring your support is at this crossroads
moment for Pakistan. In the midst of the country’s struggle to recover,
DIL’s 150 schools provide a critically-needed anchor for 17,000 children
and their families. They also provide life-saving hope when it's easy
to fall into despair. We extend deep gratitude to our generous community
and all you touch.
In addition to the widespread awareness and support sparked by coverage in the LA Times, Huffington Post, NY Times, and on Girl Effect’s Facebook project, we recognize these specific chapters that organized and/or partnered with fundraisers in their community for
