Does anybody still read this?

Homebrew seems to have removed the field3d formula recently (today?) with the following message:

Error: No available formula with the name "field3d"
==> Searching for a previously deleted formula (in the last month)...
field3d was deleted from homebrew/core in commit 9978dd7daf:
      fields3d: remove formula
fields3d needs scons with python2 to build, which is no longer
      supported.

I'm not much of a field3d expert, but looking at the basic distribution, it seems to have both scons-based and CMake based build system?
Can we restore the project to good standing by either fixing the scons one (is there a python 3 scons?), or just eliminate it and rely on CMake only?

Is anybody out there? Is this a living project that anybody uses but us?

Hi Larry,

Amusingly there is a PR I just made (a few days ago) for Field3D to fix a cmake error: https://github.com/imageworks/Field3D/pull/98

So I've built it using cmake in order to get all the OIIO plugins working, but realistically, I doubt we'll use it here.

cheers,
Luke

Yeah, I'm sorry, I just noticed the PR tonight while looking into this. I wasn't actually watching the f3d GH PRs/issues. Now I'm wondering if anybody has been. There hasn't been a message on this mail list for years, another thing that escaped my notice.

I'm trying to figure out if we should rush to fix this... or if literally nobody cares.

Yep!

> Is this a living project that anybody uses but us?

I can't comment on its life status, but it still finds at least some use here.

I'm no longer at Pixar, but they also use Field3D extensively. The library has been stable for the last couple of years but is by no means dead.

I'll go through and process the PRs later tonight! Thanks everyone for pitching in.
