Cartoon comments upon the 2000 U.S. Census which generated much
controversy this year and in the years prior to its being taken. The 2000
edition of the “every ten years enumeration of the population of the
United States” was the subject of lawsuits, political posturing, and
various court decisions. Much of the controversy surrounded the proposed
use of statistical sampling (favored by President Clinton and the
Democrat party) vs. an actual head count (favored by Republicans).
Further complications errupted around the amount of detail and types of
questions that were found in the long form which a smaller number of
people received.
