Regularly I get a message stating "explorer.exe has generated errors
etc...". Looking in event log shows the following:
1 - Service control manager event ID 7000: "The IOPort service failed to
start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file
specified."
2 - Service control manager event ID 7024: "The Computer Browser service
terminated with service-specific error 2250."
An internet search gave the following results:
1 - This event may occur when a service was not uinstalled properly (not
removed from the service database). The Service Control Manager is trying to
start the service but the executable is not there. Remove the entries for
the service from the registry.
2 - This event is generated when the Service Control Manager cannot properly
terminate a service. The name of the service and the error generated by it
are displayed in the event. So, the 7024 is not specific to a particular
service, or let's say it may occur no matter what service is failing. If the
service is a NT or 2000 system one the error number may be looked up using:
NET HELPMSG <error_number> command in a DOS prompt. Various services and
comments from contributors:Service: Messenger
Doing the above gives "The requested operation cannot be completed because
the terminal connection is currently busy processing a connect, disconnect,
reset, or delete operation."
My registry has a few references to "\winnt\system32\drivers\ioport.sys", a
file which is not on my PC. Might be because of a failed de-install ?
Questions as follows:
- Does anyone know how this might have happened ?
- How can I solve this ?
- Can I delete all references to "ioport.sys" from the registry ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
