Is there no stopping Bill? Now he wants developers of mobile phone services
to use Windows
Microsoft announced Thursday it will expand its Windows for Smart cards
initiative to embrace the GSM platform. The move means GSM operators and
handset manufacturers will soon be using Windows-based tools to build
personal, customised services for GSM phones.
Jonathan Roberts, general manager of Microsoft's productivity appliance
division said: "GSM carriers will not only be able to choose from multiple
smart card vendors, they will also be able to leverage the extensive
developer community for Windows to continue to drive innovation.
The Microsoft Windows Smart Card Toolkit is scheduled for release later this
year, with GSM support expected to be available as an option next year.
