>> 4:32 pm CT - *Deus Ex Gold; Demo Coming*
> Eidos Interactive has announced that Deus Ex has gone gold and will begin
> manufacturing for a June 22 ship date.

Eidos Interactive has announced that Deus Ex has gone gold and has begun
manufacturing for the PC. The game will be shipped to stores June 22, and a
demo is being prepared for release "soon," Eidos said in its press release.

The setup is simple: It's the new millennium. Civilization is near collapse.
The world economy is in chaos. The middle class no longer exists. Lethal
viruses have demolished the Earth's population. Terrorism runs rampant. Out of
this maelstrom of violence and suffering an ancient conspiracy bent on world
domination emerges from the shadows of legend. The conspirators' greatest
strength? No one believes in their existence. That is, no one but the gamer,
who will travel the globe, develop new abilities, build alliances and use
stealth, strategy or action to accomplish goals. "But trust no one, not even
allies," Eidos warned.

Deus Ex is set in a simulated world of rich interaction. It combines elements
of RPGs, adventure games and first-person shooters in a "compelling blend of
real world conspiracies, cliffhangers and plot twists," the press release
read. Developed at Ion Storm's Austin, Texas development office, Deus Ex
features the design talents of Warren Spector, co-producer of such hits as
Ultima VI and Wing Commander 1.

>> 6:10 pm CT - *Shipping: Shogun Total War*
> EA has shipped its epic RTS, Shogun Total War, and retailers are expecting
> it on shelves tomorrow.

For centuries, military leaders have referred to the writings of
warrior-philosopher Sun Tzu for inspiration, author of the seminal treatise on
strategy, The Art of War. So, too, did the game designers of Shogun: Total
War, a new PC game shipping from Electronic Arts. Set against feudal Japan,
Shogun: Total War combines real-time strategy with epic size battles in which
people command thousands of warriors, each with their own unique artificial
intelligence, fighting to unite Japan under their own powerful warlord.

Gamers step into the role of a 16th Century Japanese general leading one of
seven real-life clans, each with their own individual characteristics, to
raise massive armies for combat in real-time battles that are evocative of
Kurosawa's epic film, Ran. As the clan leader, people control thousands of
warriors with individual AI who behave and respond according to the rules of
Sun Tzu's The Art of War. One of the rules states, "Order and disorder are a
matter of organization, courage and cowardice are a matter of momentum,
strength and defects are a matter of formation.'' Each of the warriors
utilizes more than 220 rules from Sun Tzu's writings to ensure accurate and
unpredictable AI character behavior and reaction. Features include:

- Seven distinct Japanese clans modeled on a real historic counterpart
- Epic samurai battles hosting up to 8000 warriors
- Strategic warfare--build armies and defenses, train new troops, research
new units, engage in espionage, negotiate, invade or assassinate
- 3D terrain with real-time weather effects
- Panoramic scenery with woodlands, streams, mountains and more
- High-resolution warfare at 1600x1200 and up with a free roaming 3D engine
- View the action from all locations on the battlefield
- Simple and intuitive interface
- LAN and Internet gaming
