FEMSPEC, an interdisciplinary feminist journal dedicated to critical
and creative works in the realms of science fiction, fantasy, magical
realism, surrealism, myth, folklore and other supernatural genres, is
planning a special issue on gender and technology in science fiction
film. Possible topics, though not limited to these, include:
*technology and the cultural construction of feminine/masculine roles
*the technologically produced body
*technology as a system of representation
*technology and the construction of social categories of
difference, such as race, gender, sexuality, and class
*forms of resistance within/through/despite technology
*cybersexuality
*new directions and movements in science fiction films relating
to gender and sexuality.

Papers should be 15 pages (MLA format). Please send four hard copies
of your submission by regular mail. Your name and address should be
included only on your cover letter; the work itself should have only
the title. If you wish your hard copies returned, please include a
SASE with sufficient postage. Send submissions to: FEMSPEC Special

FEMSPEC , an interdisciplinary feminist journal dedicated to critical
and creative works in the realms of science fiction, fantasy, magical
realism, surrealism, myth, folklore and other supernatural genres, is
now accepting submissions for a special International Women's Horror
issue. Essays are invited on all forms of women's horror-texts,
films, TV and other forms, from a variety of international contexts.
Essays can concentrate on establishing ways in which women have been
figured in horror ad the kinds of cultural practices and beliefs
which this springs from. They should also concentrate on examples of
women's writing against stereotypical horror representations of
women, how contemporary women writers re-configure the vampire,
werewolf, mummy, witch and Medusa figues, among others. What kinds of
social sexual and cultural messages are being sent in some of the
lively contemporary women's vampire writing? in popular fiction? in
comics? in TV episodes like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Xena, The X
Files, etc.? Essays will be refereed supportively and then authors
will be invited if necessary to resubmit after alterations. Enquiries
