Müüriku (Marienhof) manor is situated on the
road to Simuna at a distance of 1 kilometer from
Väike-Maarja,.
The place was bought in 19th century (1817) by a
merchant from Tall called P. J."Papachen" Hoffmann.
PJH opened a shop .
As there was no competition he became rich in no time .
A proper manor house was built- a long wooden
buildig that can be
seen even to-
day.
Also, PJH erected a small building for officials
In 1891, however, the place was sold by "Papachens"
son, Georg,.
Georg H. sold Müüriku to an Estonian called Jaan Allik who had become
wealthy
on running a tavern.
In a building situated behind, the former Väike
-Maarja school for girls was opened in 1902.
In the building for officials there was the first
hospital in Väike-Maarja with four beds and a
Hoffmann worked as a doctor at that hospital.
