Jay,

This is very useful and timely information. I am a charter member of GE
Aviation's Digital division's newly organized Fiber Optic Team and have
forwarded this article to my collegues for their review. Surely they
will find it as educational and applicable as I did.

We at GE Aviation appreciate this and all relevant information and
counsel from the fiber optic community at large. Our goal is to provide
the latest technologies with the greatest safety possible for the
passengers and crews who rely on it.

Thank You,

dust issue is quite important in the optics communication but it has
not driving engineer's attention.
ensure fiber end face cleanning is a key issue in reality, taking few
seconds can for keeping whole system and equipments working well and
with original performance.
the marketing has hand held optics end face inspector for engineer on
site check or maintenning frequently.

I agree Vincent, clean endfaces is key for connectivity. It is also important to keep a clean area when cable assembly production.

This is why I put the article about dust caps on here. Industry calls them dust caps but they mainly protect the endface from damage not dust. you can buy a brand new dust cap and it can be loaded with oils dust and all kinds of factory contaminants. I has recently happened to me and the people at FIS gave me the scoop to whats up. The are also the creators of the article.
