How to Use BMW ISTA/D 2.34 and ISTA/P 2.48 on VMware

If you are looking for a way to diagnose and program your BMW vehicles from 1994 to 2013, including the new F series, you may want to try the BMW ISTA/D 2.34 and ISTA/P 2.48 software on VMware. VMware is a virtual machine software that allows you to run multiple operating systems on one computer. In this article, we will show you how to install and use the BMW ISTA/D 2.34 and ISTA/P 2.48 software on VMware with an ICOM emulator or a compatible cable.

What You Need

    • A computer with Windows 7/8/10 operating system and at least 120GB HDD space and I3, I5 or I7 processor.
    • A DVD drive or a USB flash drive to load the software.
    • A BMW ICOM emulator or a compatible cable such as K+DCAN, ENET, EDIC or OPS. (Not supplied)
    • The BMW ISTA/D 2.34 and ISTA/P 2.48 software on VMware DVDs or download links. (You can buy them online or get them from here.)
    • The ICOM firmware update and the ICOM emulator setup files. (Included in the software package)

    How to Install

      • Install VMware Workstation or VMware Player on your computer.
      • Insert the first DVD of the BMW ISTA/D 2.34 and ISTA/P 2.48 software on VMware or mount the ISO file using a virtual drive software.
      • Open VMware and create a new virtual machine with the following settings: Guest operating system: Windows XP Professional (32-bit), Memory: 2048 MB, Hard disk: Use an existing virtual disk, Disk file: Browse to the location of the first DVD or ISO file and select the .vmdk file.
      • Click Finish and power on the virtual machine.
      • Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation of the BMW ISTA/D 2.34 and ISTA/P 2.48 software on VMware. You may need to insert or mount the other DVDs or ISO files when prompted.
      • After the installation is done, restart the virtual machine and log in with the username: Administrator and password: ista-p.
      • Update the ICOM firmware using the ICOM Firmware update tool in the Engineer Tools folder on the desktop.
      • Configure the ICOM emulator using the EasyConnect tool in the Engineer Tools folder on the desktop. Set the IP address to 169.254.92.38 and click CHECK.
      • Reserve the ICOM device using the Itool Radar tool in the Engineer Tools folder on the desktop. Select the first line option and click Reserve.

      How to Use

        • To use ISTA/D for diagnostics and technical documents, double click the RHEINGOLD icon on the desktop and go to Operations, then Read Out Vehicle Data, press Complete identification. Follow the ISTA prompt to connect the ICOM emulator or cable with your vehicle. When it shows ICOM, you can click Connect to start diagnosis.
        • To use ISTA/P for programming, coding and encoding, double click the ISTA-P icon on the desktop and select your language, resolution, vehicle type and server automatically. Follow the ISTA prompt to connect the ICOM emulator or cable with your vehicle. When it shows ICOM, you can click Connect to start programming.
        • To use ETK for parts catalog, double click the ETK icon on the desktop and click Extras, then Settings to change your language and other settings.
        • To use KSD for repair times and service data, double click the KSD icon on the desktop and click Settings to change your language and other settings.
        • To use Engineer Tools for advanced functions such as INPA, NCS-Expert, WinKFP etc., open the Engineer Tools 51082c0ec5
