Ifirst like to introduce myself (per moderator request) as a Dentrix Developer Partner. I do not work for Dentrix, I'm an authorized 3rd-party Dentrix developer. I also like to state very clear that is not my intention to get any profit out of the information I like to share with you.
Reading data from a Dentrix G4 database or older versions is really complicated. In fact is not officially supported by Dentrix. However you can possibly manage by using an Hex Editor or something, but you really have no easy way to do it with an API or an SDK since Dentrix doesn't provide those for G4 and older versions. On top of that, using any method of reading the database without Dentrix's approval could fall into a HIPAA violation and you could get yourself in real trouble.
Once again, I like to state very clear is not my intention to get any compensation from sharing this out since I don't get any benefit from it anyways. Reason for this is the API implies a cost (is not free).
Trixi from Open Dental might be able to dump it to a comma delimited file.. If you can find it. =) Someone also wrote a ODBC driver but the site is now down.. Most likely a former dentrix employee, as he posted from American Fork.
I had to do the same thing. The data is stored in fixed width columns, fixed length rows. Once you identify your layout, you can then parse the data. I think this video ( =OMeghA82kSk) is me going through a sample SoftDent database, or Dentrix G4. On the bright side, once you figure it out for Dentrix G4, the definitions for Easy Dental is nearly identical.
For Dentrix G4, there is no ODBC driver, everything Dentrix uses to read data is embedded into Dentrix. There is no way to access the data short of parsing it. Data is stored in a mixture of binary and ASCII and will have to be converted for each record.
If you are only trying to get access to your own data, ReminderDental's database integration can export the top 16 tables to an SQLite database. If you are trying to develop a commercial solution, then hopefully you will find this helpful.
Commentaires :They are giving me a pain right now. I have had to upgrade my computers many times to handle their upgrades, and their program is never re written, the program just gets larger each time.
the customer service. they are always sending you offshore, and the techs are not trained. you have to call back a lot to find a competent tech. they don't service you well. For instance, I have called 3 times to upgrade Dentrix software to a more current version. Each time I was told that the person who installs the software has gone home. On Today's call, the person answering the phone said that the installer had gone home. It is the 4th time I have called, and I asked why he has gone home since it is only 2:30 PM in the afternoon. The representative said he only installs Dentrix updates Monday-Thursday 5AM - 2 PM and Fridays 5AM to 1 PM! I am so angry because had any of the other people answering the phones told me this, I would have known when to call back! This is terrible customer service! Do they only have one person installing Dentrix updates? I am so upset that I drove to the office on a day off specifically to install this update, at 2:30 pm AND THE INSTALLER HAS GONE HOME AGAIN! What the heck is going on? I also scheduled a call from the installer and never got a call back. This is really Mickey Mouse for a company that is supposed to be the biggest and the best. I am really beginning to regret working with Dentrix.
Commentaires :My previous job at my father's dental office worked with paper files for the first 30 years. We finally convinced him to upgrade and get a computer system. We chose Dentrix and I'm glad we did! I don't have experience with others to compare, but it was such a great software. Also, you can print out the patient's chart to have a backup paper chart to file in case of an emergency.
- Dentrix has a ton of features that makes scheduling appointments mostly easy and stress-free.- It's easy to find the codes after the patient received their treatment and add it to their digital chart.- Easy to print patients' charts for backup files.- Billing made easy.- Customer support was always excellent
- Costly.- It can take a bit to learn everything within the software.- Only Windows compatible. I have Windows but that can be an issue for those who are Mac owners.- When scheduling appointments, sometimes the boxes cover other appointment times making them nonvisible, which ultimately makes you not realize an appointment is there and mess up the appointments for that time slot and surrounding.
I really enjoy that there is so many different areas to explore. If you have any questions customer service is always willing to remote in and help and there are also training videos to watch to help.
A few things that can some times become a headache is when say a child parents are separated and they have insurance with both parents you have to add them on the same account instead of keeping every one as an individual like Eaglesoft has it. Another little con I have is that it is kind of hard to email a patient there ledger, if they request. There is a lot of steps.
Commentaires :Dentrix is a powerful practice management software for dental practices, and is supportive and supported by most 3rd party manufacturers for sensors, cameras, and scanners. It is easily scale-able for the size of your office, allowing you to quickly carry over customization options to other workstations.
Dentrix's menu system will feel familiar to most users, as it has a very XP/Win7 feel to the theme and layout. Their customer support is very good, and often resolve any issues within one support session. The management windows are highly customization, both in what information is shown and where it is located, and you can share the setting file to other workstations.
It does look a tad outdated, which isn't to say the software isn't powerful. Additionally it can be overwhelming for new users due to how many buttons and sub-sections windows can be divided up into. When having to contact Dentrix's support there is often a short wait, which in addition to taking time raises concerns about how staffed are they, or are there just a lot of people with issues?
Integration is turning out to be a headache! They want to charge for every little thing and didn't tell me about extra charges until right before! "oh by the way, document conversion is just another $860 on top of everything else...did you want to add that?" What????? Of course I wanted to add that! We have spent hours putting thousands of documents into the system, only to not have them convert????!!!! Why is this not included and why was I not told this in the beginning????? Not to mention I send and email, or ask a question and they take weeks to get back to me. Often only when I call them do they finally respond.
The features and ways this software can help manage patient records, appointments, billing, treatment plans, and communications is limitless. I have worked in offices that utilize Dentrix to its fullest and it is a great tool and keeps everyone on the same page in regulates to patients and treatment etc. You can begin using it for a few things and as you get comfortable the features used can expand. It is pretty flexible for using in small offices or larger offices and with proper training it seems to be great in my experience as a hygienist.
Commentaires :the rep that sold it to my office misrepresented what options the software came with. we purchased it for around K , then had to purchase licensing for all computers, then had it installed only to find out that it does not come with all the module included and you had to pay extra for the services like ebilling and ecentral (which malfunctions all the time)
the service is horrible, the contact is expensive and does not cover the tech on site. The online support is not bad but not able to solve many issues. The techs that came to the office and set up the whole thing did a terrible job and the software is constantly not working properly. They cam in and set up my whole network and server and none of it works well and consistently. Software is not user friendly and required many hours to get it to work OK. Features like insurances and notes are very hard to set up to where they should be to work well.
They charged money for the file transfer from ACE and that was a complete screw up and we basically had to start from scratch on everything. Took a Year to clean up the mess. If I could do it over again I would steer clear of Dentrix
20+ year user: Product has gotten more complicated to use. previously globally updated components like DEXIS, now must be updated separately; tech support has degraded; is outsourced and there is a language barrier-30 minutes of formalities before the problem is addressed; wait times are lengthy; tech reads manual on client time while client is holding; techs poorly trained and inexperienced. Dentrix integrated brand name products like: Colgate into RXs and CareCredit in the software without client permission.
Encompasses everything needed to provide excellent dental care for patients. Although very good software to begin with, company is open to suggestions from users and will incorporate most popular suggestions in updates. Have been using for over 30 years.
Overall happy with software. Perhaps one con would be in regards to add-on features. For example, there is a credit card processing add-on that works along side Dentrix. A great feature that integrates with software but, at the time when we were using this feature, there was no choice in credit card processing company. In order to use it, all offices had to go with the same processor, regardless of the discount rates, etc. We were able to get a better rate with comparable service elsewhere, however, it doesn't integrate with the software. Not directly related to the base software program which is wonderful.
I would like if it worked. But, it does not. I have had to close each month manually for more than a year and a half, costing my office hours of time and loss of production. When I brought the issue to escalations last February, it died there and [SENSITIVE CONTENT]has still not called me back to resolve this issue.
