Hey, I created a page just for DBQs, there's a list of all the past
DBQ questions listed chronologically (1700s -> 1960s) and different
grading rubrics; I will update the page once I find new and useful
info. Hope this helps!

Click on http://groups.google.com/group/fhs-history/web/dbqs - or copy
& paste it into your browser's address bar if that doesn't work.

That is AMAZING!!!!- and it looks like you put a lot of effort into it

If you want to add the steps to the DBQ, that might be helpful
too :)!!!

Steps for a DBQ:
1) Figure out what the question is asking.
2) Decide what type of essay the question is asking for:
THE FOUR TYPES OF ESSAYS:
· Cause and Effect Essay
· Five Paragraph Essay
· Chronologically Ordered Essay
· Compare and Contrast Essay
3) Construct a chart or outline
4) Plug into the chart the details that you know
5) Read the information given (the documents), mainly the headings
6) Add more factoids from the documents
7) Write a thesis
8) Plan your body paragraphs by giving a heading for each one as to
what you are planning to put in them.

Well, I hope this helps!!!

Thanks :)

I've added in the steps now, let me know if there's anything else to
put on there!

Hmmmm... Looking through the DBQs now, I'm not sure which one she's
likely to use for the test. Any ideas?? Also, here are some teacher/
student created DBQs which could be useful.
1875-1925 period (teacher-/student-created)

It is clear that all the lives that were lost in the American Civil
War to insure a 'new birth of freedom' were in vain. By 1880, the
South had defeated the weak Northern efforts in behalf of the
freedmen, and had re-enslaved the Negro. Assess the validity of this
statement using the documents and your knowledge of U S History.

How do you explain the failure of Reconstruction to bring justice and
social and economic equality to freed Blacks?

To what extent did Reconstruction bring the Southern Negro the
equality and freedom that slavery had denied them?
And the full text of these questions (the data provided) can be
accessed here http://www.historyteacher.net/2000DBQsMainPage.htm
along with more questions. Click on the flag next to the question to
see the text...

I asked her and it's this one:

1870s: Constitutional and Social Development

1996

In what ways and to what extent did constitutional and social
development between 1860 and 1877 amount to a revolution?

I was hoping it wasn't that one!!  I guess it wasn't much of a revolution because blacks weren't any better off after the Civil War than before it.   Maybe it was a revolution in warfare and weaponry, as well as women in the workplace..
Hmmm.  Thanks for asking!!!

No problem :) Now we have 2 extra days to plan what to write!
I will try to see if I can find the full DBQ for this question, i
doubt it (since most of them are copy-righted), but I'll try anyways.
It'll be helpful if we could set up groups during some block periods
Wednesdays and Thursdays to discuss it :\ although I'm not sure if
anyone actually checks this page often?
Anyways, just an idea

After school might work! Should an email be sent to everyone in the
group about it then?

We might want to send a group e-mail now.   I'm not sure if you have to send it to every member individually, though... That would be a pain!

Hey guys! Its Sri! Do you guys have any idea on what the final DBQ is
going to be? Ms. Campbell-Hale told us (period 2) that it was going to
be based off of Chapter 24, and that we should use the info in Chapter
23 and 25 to support it? So based off of the list of DBQ questions
which one do you think the final will be on?

Hey Guys! It's Sai. Just a guess, but I think the Final DBQ is this:
1875-1900: Labor
2000
How successful was organized labor in improving the position of
workers in the period 1875-1900? Analyze the factors that contributed
to the level of success achieved.

I remember her saying that the DBQ is going to be about Labor. (told
7th period).
That's why we haven't had the lecture about Labor yet!

Hey! Remember how Ms. C-H told us that we are going to be able to see
the final that she used for last year's final as one of the activities
tomorrow (Dec. 3)? Well, I think I know the DBQ that Ms. C-H is going
to show us for the activity (about farmers): I think its this one:

Documents A-H reveal some of the problems that many farmers in the
late nineteenth century (1880-1900) saw as threats to their way of
life. Using the documents and your knowledge of the period, (a)
explain the reasons for agrarian discontent and (b) evaluate the
validity of the farmers' complaints.

Time Period: 1880-1900: Farmers' Issues

It talks about the farmers and the time period that they want us to
get info from is in accordance to the time period that we are reading
about...

Or it could be this DBQ:

Analyze the ways in which technology, government policy, and economic
conditions changed American agriculture in the period 1865-1900's: In
your answer be sure to evaluate farmers' response to these changes.

This is also about farmers and it's in the time period that we are
learning about so this might be the question that she shows us
tomorrow...

if that one is it, then the people who did the DBQ in class will dominate the final...
