Give it up for the longest subject in the history of subjects!!!!

Speaking of history here are some sites (you can decide how useful
they actually are)

For Peoples class in general: (in case you haven't been able to find
these sites)
http://www.historyteacher.net/EuroCiv/EuroCiv-CourseMainPage.htm
http://www.historyteacher.net/EuroProjects/ExamReviewSheets/APEuroMainReviewPage.htm
http://www.angelfire.com/fl4/ap/reviewques.html
http://www.pptpalooza.net/ -View Mr. Peoples' complete set of
notes!!!!

And for people taking the AP test (which I believe is very very few of
you):
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/history_world/samp.html?worldhist
http://www.collegeboard.com/student/testing/ap/sub_worldhist.html?worldhist

-NOTE: you can still use this website to get the broad themes
(if you are primarily focusing on the IB pathway...)

Well, that's all for now...

Hope someone can use these sites.... if not then I am very sorry to
disturb you busy folks....

GOOD LUCK ON THE DBQ TOMORROW!!!!!

Hi guys! Nice of you to dig up this group!!!

Since we're on the topic of history...is anyone having trouble deciding on what SL exams to take this year? If, like me, you're doing the IB diploma, you have to pick 2.
In my case, I have 3 SL's waiting this year - spanish, chem, and history.
So...I'm definetly taking spanish this year, but I'm having trouble picking between taking chem or history this year as well!

People like me can...
- wait until next year with the chem exam (risk factor of forgetting: huge)
- take history HL (bleh)
- take economy SL senior year (sounds good...but adds another class senior year, which is already going to be quite hard even if I have few classes)
- run away to Gibraltar.

So, I've heard many opinions on all these options and it seems like the economy thing would be nice. But it would be better to hear from other people too - what do you think? And if you're in the same situation, what are you gonna do?

ps
is the history SL exam so hard that Peoples really doesn't prepare you? I mean...come on...

Hi Elena,

From what I've heard, the IB World History SL is easy for People's
students, even though it covers the entire world whereas we pretty
much just cover Europe. You can definitely take the test, and I would
recommend it if you don't want to take the HL History Test. But if you
do, then there's no reason to take SL too, and it would be better to
take AP Euro I think (but it's up to whether or not you want to take
European History in college, which I do, and I'm guessing you would
too). This leaves you space to take Chem SL this year when it's all
fresh in your memory (you might also be studying for AP Chem like me),
and then you can also take Econ SL next year if you want to have two
social studies IB tests.

Obviously, though, the most appealing option to history people like us
is to run away to Gibraltar, because a) it's interesting, b) it's only
preservation of our sanity and c) we can get a first had experience of
a portion of European history to incorporate into some IB-related free
response thing. Or not :)

Hope that helps,
Alexander Atallah

Yes!!! Gibraltar! But wait, it's IB, so they'll have it there too - there's no escape I'm afraid. But yeah, it would make an interesting essay. XD

Hmm...if the SL is easy...on the other hand I am prone to forgetting things, so putting off chem is a bad idea. *sigh*

By the way, I'm really unsure about what to do with AP - my mom suggested it might be too much pressure if I take a bunch of IB and AP tests, what's the point of doing them both? Do you get even more college credit? (They're expensive too)

But thank you for the advice, Alex!!!

Hey Elena!

So this is what I have heard:

In general it is VERY hard to get college credit from the IB tests
(only if you get a 6 or 7 will you actually get college credit). On
the other hand, it is a lot easier to get college credit when taking
the AP tests.

If you are an IB diploma candidate, 6 IB tests in various subjects are
required. After passing all 6 tests you will get the IB diploma (a
passing score is a 4- i think), but not necessarily college credit in
each subject. People take the AP tests because they are actually
designed to give you credits if you get a 4 or 5.

Hope that makes sense! If you have any other questions that are within
my limited knowledge capacity, then feel free to ask.

P.S. Sai and I were put in the exact same situation (as were several
others) and we decided to take the Spanish and Chemistry SL tests.

It all depends where you go for college for the credits. I met a girl
who was an IB Diploma candidate and unfortunately didn't get it.
However, when she went to CU (Yeah, I know, CU isn't the BEST school
to compare for getting credits, but it gives you a general idea....)
anyway, she got 70+ hours worth of credits out of the way because she
took the tests and the classes.

Hope this helps a bit!

well, cu boulder's requirements for its college of arts and sciences for graduation is 120 hrs so that's about more than half?
i'm pretty sure there's a limit on the amount you can carry over though

on a side note, going for a non-engineering science major will get you a bachelor's of arts XD not science

meh
