Hello everyone,

on my first attempt to install fhGFS on prototype virtual machines (development)
I chose the GUI-based installation method.
Below are the host specs:

a) storage node:     sless 11 x86 64 2.6.27.19-5-default #1 SMP     (same as production storage)
b) storage node:     same
c) mds, mgt, admon:  same
d) client node:      CentOS 5.3 2.6.18-128.el5 #1 SMP x86 64        (same as client production nodes)

The problem I'm having is after ensuring that:
- all machines can communicate with each other
and
- all machines can access the Internet ok

During the GUI install ONLY the client install failed on   d) client node above

The error message was:
Failed to install FHGFS open TK library on host fhgfs1
Failed to install FHGFS client on host fhgfs1

and finally from the management log:
------------------------------------
Installing FhGFS Opentk library on host fhgfs1
--------------------
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
 * base: centos.corenetworks.net
 * updates: ftp.ussg.iu.edu
 * extras: centos.digitalcompass.net
http://fhgfs.com/release/fhgfs_2011.04/dists/rhel5/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-3, 'Temporary failure in name resolution')>
Trying other mirror.
Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: FhGFS. Please verify its path and try again
Failed to install FhGFS Opentk library on host fhgfs1
------------------------------------------------------
same error for the other client modules to install.

What I don't understand is I can copy this URL, put it in a browser and it goes there not problem!

Any ideas as to what could be going on?

Is this an easy fix to do I have to do a manual client install?

thanks for helping
Charles

Hello Charles,

this is problem with your DNS settings in the virtual machine. The error
massage is a hint for this problem:

[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error (-3, 'Temporary failure in name
resolution')>

Please connect to fhgfs1 and try to download the repomd.xml with this
command:
wget http://fhgfs.com/release/fhgfs_2011.04/dists/rhel5/repodata/repomd.xml.

If this doesn't work fix your DNS configuration of your virtual machine.
If the wget command works try the following command which installs the
fhgfs-client manually:
yum install fhgfs-client

Greetings,
Frank
