Dear All -
It is with sadness that I report that my mother, Nina Rothchild, unexpectedly passed away yesterday evening, October 12, of a brain hemorrhage. We were fortunate that she held on long enough for us all (my father Ken, my sisters Mary and Sally, and me) to all be able to gather at her bedside before she died. The passing was in comfort and peace.
As a longtime resident of Fair Harbor - at 112 Pine and before that the Peek family Cottage at 91 Birch - for 73 years Fire Island, and its ocean beach and breezes, have held a special place in her heart. This past summer was particularly special, as she was able to celebrate her 70th wedding anniversary to my father, on the back deck of the Pine Walk house, with all of her children, their spouses, the grandchildren, their partners, and the two great grandchildren Bianca and Luna in attendance. It was a special night and it gives us great comfort to know she was surrounded by the love of her family in the most special place on earth for her.
Private as she was, over the past few years my parents have made many friends in the Fair Harbor community, so we feel it important for all who knew her to know of her passing. We anticipate that at some point her ashes will contribute to the protection of the beach she so loved.
A service fir Nina will be held in Minnesota in December.
Yours
Ken
