ROSENKRANTZ, Edmund R. Passed away peacefully on September 28, 2025, at the age of 95. Ed was loved by many in his Manhattan, Montclair, West Orange, and Fire Island communities. He was known for his deep love of classical music and jazz, his knowledge of history and literature, his engaging stories, and his excellent gin and tonics. A proud graduate of Bronx Science ’48, NYU ’51, and Harvard Law ’54, he loved to reminisce about his student days and was thrilled to be able to attend his 70th law school reunion in October 2024, where he was the oldest attendee. He had a long and satisfying career as an entertainment lawyer with stints at the Motion Picture Association of America, Warner Bros, Columbia Pictures, Pryor Cashman, American Film Theatre, and Creative Management Associates. His clients and colleagues admired Ed for his integrity, wise counsel, meticulous attention to detail, and genuine love for the performing arts. A lifelong New Yorker, Ed devotedly served as the Board President of 445 E 86th Street for more than 25 years.
Ed started renting on Fire Island during his law school days, in the summer of 1951, with fellow rabble-rousers Eli Schoenfeld, Allen Schwartz, Howard Sieven, and Stanley Solson. He was known for displaying his Harvard pride on the sweatshirts he wore down to the dock at sunset, and for impressing the young folks with his ukelele-playing at Bridgehenge and on the beach. He and our beloved neighbor, DJ Jaffe, would sit on the beach for hours talking about British history. In his younger days, he played with the regular beach volleyball group that included Lloyd Miller and Julie Kornblau, and proudly served with the Fair Harbor Fire Department. Fire Island, with our dear Holly Walk friends, was his happiest place, and really the only place he wanted to be during these last months.
Ed was deeply loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
