Suffolk County is revising its Hazard Mitigation Plan in response to increasing concerns about the pattern of storms and flooding events we've had. The County wants to be sure that the resources required to respond to these emergencies are in place when they are needed.
To help inform the updated plan, the County’s Hazard Mitigation Team has created a brief survey for Suffolk County residents. If you respond, which we hope you do, please mark Saltaire or Ocean Beach when it asks where you're located. They list only villages and Fair Harbor is a hamlet. You can type in Fair Harbor in Question 4.

The level of concern expressed by Fire Island residents will likely influence how the County prioritizes funding for hazard mitigation on the island, so please take a minute to fill it in. It's very short. A strong response from Fire Island will help ensure that the island’s needs are clearly reflected in the County’s planning.
Many thanks to the FIA for forwarding this and Vern in Saltaire who is our point person on this. Below is the Suffolk County email if you want more information.

An Important Message from Suffolk County FRES-OEM
Suffolk County’s Department of Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Services (FRES-OEM) is currently updating the County's Multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). As part of this update, we are reaching out to the public for their input on some of the hazards that County residents may face.
We recognize that Fire Island residents have a unique perspective and considerable experience with the impact of some of the 14 identified hazards, including coastal erosion, flooding, hurricanes, severe winter storms, and nor’easters. Therefore, Fire Island input is very valuable to this survey.
Please distribute this message to your Community residents and encourage them to participate.
Suffolk County Hazard Mitigation Plan - Public Survey: The survey is designed for residents, business owners, and community members to share firsthand experiences with hazards and provide feedback on resilience and preparedness. The survey should only take 5 to 10 minutes to complete
