Beyond Conventional Medical Thinking
As a long-time Fair Harbor resident, I treasure the decades during which I’ve been able to enjoy the Fire Island experience, and the friendships and sense of community. I also treasure the career I’ve had in medicine, combining clinical practice and research. And I’d like to bring to your attention the podcast series that I am initiating that I believe will be of interest and value to many.
As physicians, we clearly learn a great deal from published medical research. However, the literature almost completely overlooks what we physicians learn during decades of taking care of patients. We make observations that make sense, and that are helpful in treating patients, yet do not exist in the medical literature. Unfortunately, without the time or financing to perform large, formal, publishable studies, particularly when no expensive new medication or procedure is involved, most such insights die with the physician.
I am creating this podcast series to present treatment approaches that are effective, safe, inexpensive, and make medical sense, and that are relevant to common medical conditions, yet are not found in the medical literature, and are unknown to most physicians and patients. I will also invite other physicians to join me and share their insights as well.
I believe the podcasts will be of great interest and value to patients and physicians alike. And they will provide valuable advice that you can bring to your physician. Here are a few examples of topics I will be presenting:
• A best-selling drug for hypertension or heart conditions that no one realizes causes mental dullness, or brain fog, and can even mimic Alzheimer’s. And the simple alternative!
• The Overdiagnosis and Overtreatment of high blood pressure in millions of patients. Simple reasons that can be easily addressed.
• A fascinating and pioneering new understanding of the mind/body connection that is relevant to many common yet inadequately understood and treated medical conditions.
• Chronic fatigue syndrome: An answer to the persisting Mystery of the cause and treatment of this common condition.
• How FDA approval of new medications or procedures often misguide us
• Should You Drink 8 glasses of water a day, or should you not?
• Fantastic, rarely employed yet very logical strategies that enable prescribing of diuretics to best advantage.
• ADHD: A safe medication that helps many, yet no psychiatrists prescribe it
• And many other topics
