It is with great sadness that the family of Kennon Rothchild announces his passing away, peacefully, this past Sunday August 17, at the grand age of 97.
Residents of Minnesota, Ken and his wife Nina (who predeceased him in 2021) returned to Fair Harbor every summer for close to 75 years. Initially it was to spend a few weeks in the Peek (now Glowa/Nelson) family cottage on Birch Walk as a summer vacation; later, after purchasing their own home in 1991 on Pine Walk, it was for the entire summer. Of particular delight was celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary in Fair Harbor in September of 2021 attended by all their family, In the off-season they enjoyed world travel, visiting all seven continents, and sending copious travelogues home to their children and grandchildren.
Ken and Nina were active in FHCA activities, often manning the ticket booth at FHCA events. The Fire Department's pancake breakfasts were especially revered. They loved Fair Harbor and the beauty of our Atlantic Ocean community.
Our father was a wonderful man, accomplished but more known for the kindness and generosity he showed everyone. We are heartbroken.
There will be a public celebration of Ken's life sometime later this fall (date to be determined) in Minnesota. It will feature song, poetry, and pie. An official announcement will be made in the future; in lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the FHCA in honor of Ken and Nina.
Attached is the pdf of the Ken's official obituary.
With warmest regards,
Ken, Mary and Sally Rothchild
